i've done some searching, and it appears there was some talk last year of a GP32 GTA clone, which i think was scrapped due to lack of resources...

Heres one thread
And Another

So, maybe a group of enterprising hackers could make a lovely GTA clone for our shiny new(ish) gp2x's?

It's certainly not impossible that they would do a GP2X version. They have a version for Amiga for fuck's sake, and that platform has been dead for a long time now. I've been hoping they'd ship the GBA version to North America for some time now.

I wrote a GTA game a few years ago when I was just learning how to program games. I've gotten way, way, way better since then, but it might be useful for some purpose. It uses SDL, but it's probably not directly portable without an ARM port of SDL_gfx...

I'd be happy to help out with programming advice for anyone approaching this project with some prior experience though. I know a lot more about game development (for example, framerate independence) than I did when I wrote this hunk of crap. ;)

got a reply back:

Hi Bob,

> The gp2x is an open handheld gaming console, built by gamepark holdings. it has some very impressive specifications:

Interesting. I'll look into it.

Cheers,
James.

Any Gta-like game is welcome :)

"do you have a matrix-styled pause? i don't think so, liberty city stories, pfuh... "

OK, EvilDragon just showed on GIGA-Games (Crappy German TV-Show) the first version of a PAYBACK-Port

Apparently, its just a tech demo showing off 3D on the gp2x, not a real game :(
