With the help of theoddbot, DJWillis, Woogal, and Nickspoon, I've made a (quick) port of PrBoom for GP2X. As always, this first release is a beta. Everything sould work. I didn't put any sync code in the game itself but the provided launch script call sync at game exit. I didn't test any dehacked or additional WADs, but everything that works with (Pr)Boom/MBF and does not requires hight-res or OpenGL should work on the GP2X.

Just tried freedoom on it looks really nice, although oddly. I couldn't shoot.

LOL just got keys working in game

Sorry, just got there its very nice, I like the random cursor at the start.

Now I'm really ready for a new joystick head :). I've mentioned freedoom, as an alternative to stealing and never tried it out. It seemed a good time to give it a bash as I knew it was prdoom compatable. Its close enough to the original.

if you add a (P)WAD-Selector, you are my hero.

You are already my hero. Good job!

Edit: I can't seem to get used to the way the controls are. I like the joystick forward/backward for moving forward/backward and the joystick left/right for strafing. Then I use the L and R buttons for turning. Any way you can allow for that? It seems like the joystick is unconfigurable, although I can set L and R to turn left/right. Also, maybe if you can post a list of what the values in the .cfg represent on the GP2x? Thanks again!

PrBoom has nicer graphics than the original doom, that means it will look better on the gp2x than on the gp32? :) damn thats fine! thank you for your work!!

There's a lot of discrepancy here, usually based on user preference. I don't think it should be one way or another, but a few options would be nice.

I used original PrBoom joystick movement handling for the GP2X joystick. It looks like you can't use it to strafe. I tried to map joystick's buttons to keys, but I had an issue when passing from a straight-direction (UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT) to a mixed-direction (UPRIGHT, UPLEFT, DOWNLEFT, DOWNRIGHT). For instance, when passing from UP to UPLEFT, the SDL_JOYBUTTONUP event for UP comes after the SDL_JOYBUTTONDOWN for UPLEFT. It makes it more complicated to map joysticks to keys but not impossible. I may retry to map joystick to keys later.

I cant get this to work....copied a wad file into the prboom folder and copied it across to my card...but when i run it all i get is a black screen...any ideas??

Cheers

Willy

gotta say awesome work on this one, this is fantastic. i managed to define the keys pretty good, took me while to realise that the joystick center click is what you gotta press to select what you want to change and then you press the key you'd like to define it. once i figured this out it was a blast - been playing for hours!

thanks for this one...

Awesome stuff guys!!

Now just can't wait to get Davec's joystick cap, mine is cheezing me off so bad... Got difficulty turning left, get killed in Quake all the time because of it. Aaarghh...
