Hey.

My laptop has recently decided to stop producing sound from it's speakers.
I have checked all the settings and nothing is set to mute, and apparently, everything is "working properly"

I have tried the troubleshooting option, but this produced no positive results.

The laptop is literally 1 month out of warranty, so it would be an arse if anything went wrong now.
Does anyone have any ideas about whats wrong, and can offer any help?

If you connect headphones does sound come out through them?
When about did this happen? Had you installed or changed anything? Did it just stop working when you restarted one day, or did it cut out while the laptop was switched on?

Try uninstalling the Device, and restarting your computer?

Headphones work for some reason, restarting doesnt work, and i dont think i have the driver to re-install the soundie thing.

If it's a laptop it probably came with an OEM copy of Windows with all the drivers and everything already setup. You could try reinstalling Windows if this is the case.

This'll mean that i'll lose everything doesnt it?

If you are getting sound via headphones but no speakers then it is more likely to be a hardware fault somewhere.

Fair enough.

So, this is the part where the laptop still being in warranty would be useful.

it may be a relatively simple procedure to repair the speakers

or you could take the route that i would, call up customer services from whence you purchased said laptop and be an indignant bastard until someone agrees to have your laptop repaired

you'd be surprised what can be achieved by asking, then pestering, then demanding.

Thanks, I do find that, somehow, nothing ever gets done unless you are an indignant bastard.

When someone pulls that crap with me, I hang up on them. The bigger a dick someone is, the less likely it is that I'm going to go out of my way to help them.

This may sound daft or rather obvious, but some laptops have a volume control on the side of the case, I know a lot of Toshiba models do, you haven't accidentally set the control to zero?????
