Scummvm For The Gp2x - Test Builds

I found a nice icon for ScummVM and sharing is good :)

*waits eagerly*

Keep waiting, I put my back out (can't sit down without it giving me grief) so don't really fancy doing much coding. At the moment and the current build segfaults so is unusable, I will get onto fixing it when I feel a bit better.

Ouch, I know what that feels like. I recommend horizontality and beer, intraveneously if possible :D Get well soon!

Cheers Guys :D,

Ok,

Here is a new public alpha test (6.2 I guess).

No readme, get that from alpha 6 and read down.

ScummVM GP32x Alpha 6.2

It is ONLY to show the scalar working (badly) and is really remotely not usable. Don’t even bother trying the non-scaled games on it.
It IS slow and there is a lot of work to be done to make it playable (maybe even upping the CPU speed).

Oh, and don’t touch the volume buttons, they are now wired up to some futzed code to play with the mixer and batt levels at the moment and I don’t feel like fixing it up (back still playing up)

There is no MPEG2 video decoding support (hardly surprising) so there is no point copying over video cut-scene packs for any of the scaled down games.

Ok, what would I like tested? Broken Sword 1 and 2 would be awesome (I can only find my BS2 CD so that is all I have tested) and Curse of Monkey Island. I think that is about it for the current supported SuperVGA games in ScummVM off the top of my head, any others, well test them :D.

Whilst game bug reports, major points of slowdown etc. would be great, just general heads up if they even work would also be cool.

I personally find the scaled text is not really very usable so make sure you load up the talkie versions of games and don’t rely on the subtitles.

Other then that I know about the slight flickering and the slower the ideal pointer speed with the scaled games.

Assuming I get some good feedback I will incorporate this scalar code and other changes into alpha 7 and get that out the door as soon as possible.

Credits:

Considering how much of a pain bullying the scalar and other bits of the hardware into shape has been the following people deserve huge amounts of good chi on the GP2X side ;).

A lot of the #GP2XDev crowd

nice job djwillis :) just tested broken sword1 (video compressed in ogg and music in mp3) and works fine, scaled very well and good speed.
savestated dont work, when i try to save i got this message of error
"Unable to create file snvega.. directory '/mn1/sd/broken1'

music work whitout a problem, mp3 perfect sync and with good speed, as u said movies dont work

If u need any test more tell me pls

ty for your job

Interesting, is there plenty of free space on the SD?

I will try and find my BS1 CD's (or buy a cheap'o copy in town) and test it.
Glad to hear it works though.

You feel the speed is ok? I felt it needed a lot of work.

speed is ok for me atleast, but didnt try COMI and bs2, sure that those look more slow, btw i looked for space in sd aswell, and i got 100 mega free so..

cpu speed 250 for the test

ah ok, should be that, yeah and save game i think that is a small mistake on code or i dunno :) i still testing

Tested COMI aswell, same speed but movement of mouse is a bit slow, movement of npc aswell, save game work fine

Well I tried it on COMI; it's a bit slow but I think it's already a nice performance !
A noticed an other problem with the older version: we can't fight in Fate of Atlantis.

PS: Thanks for your mail ! :)

Just a guess as I haven't tried it, but maybe a typo in the savedir? (either in gandalf's post/the code?)

I mean.. the 1 isn't exactly next to the t on a qwerty or dvorak keyboard...

Grabbed it twice myself to check it and it worked fine. Make sure you have the default-theme.zip in the folder with the GPE.

EDIT: Ok, glad it's working, hmm, I need to get BS1 compressed and onto an SD to test this as I have played BS2 a fair bit and it saves and loads just fine. What exactly is the problem?

EDIT2: Ok, I see your edit with the problem, will test more as I don't quite see how that happens.

Hi,

I'm sure I'm being an idiot, but I also get the Black Screen Of Death. I have the default-theme.zip in /mnt/sd/svm along with the .gpe, and no dice.

Gandalfjip: how did you fix this? (looking at the serial output, everything seems fine, but nothing happens).

Thanks
