My GP2X shows Unknown Device in Device Manager using USB 2.0(was told is doesnt work), 1.2.1 firmware, working SD card(Copied Files with card reader)
-Powered on with SD card inserted(and not inserted both tested)
-Went to the Setting|USB
-WinXP detected as unknown device

Tried with my friend's GP2X shows Mass Storage Device(with ? from what i was told USB2.0 doesnt work), 1.2.1 firmware, same SD card
-Powered on with SD card inserted(and not inserted both tested)
-Went to the Setting|USB
-WinXP detected as Mass Storage Device(with ?)

So is my GP2X faulty or are both GP2Xs faulty??? :(
I bought both of them together at Playasia compared both of them and found out this problem.

Your GP2X isn't faulty, it is a firmware issue. However, rather than waiting for it to be fixed, you can try one of two options:

1) Buy a card reader
2) Either plug your 2X into a USB1.1 port, or purchase a USB1.1 hub.

Note that option 2 isn't guaranteed to work.

But why does one show Unknown Device and another shows Mass Storage Device with a "?" although they have the same firmware and SD card

i tried usb monitor and it still doesnt work, its nothing to do with windows drivers its the 2X being lame as every other usb device ive used works and 90% of people are having problems with the 2x dont blame windoze

Other option to try
Open Device manager (before plugging GP2X in) and disable 'enhanced serial Bus Controller'
Close Device Manager and Plug GP2X in.
Some systems will now detect GP2X as gadget device now.

Hope it works for you :)

I've been dead in the water for a day or so following my upgrade to 1.2.1 but, as soon as I disabled "Intel PCI to USB enhanced host controller" in Device Manager, BANG! I was able to connect via USB again. Thanks so much for the help, Judge0!

i had that problem
all you do is like i did, put your SD card in a camera or mp3 player which takes SD cards. connect that to your computor then format it to FAT32.
worked great for me.
then if that device is rechargeable use that to transfer big files like movies so you dont waste ur gp2x batteries.
cheaper than buying a sd card writer and as affective

I tried disabling the enhanced host controller and it said that the mass storage device was working properly. However, it does not show up under My Computer.
