Hey fellas,

I'm really interested about the GP2X sales.
Since we all know that at least the guys from gp2x.de & gbax.com (cragix & evildragon) are on the board - would you tell us, how much got "over the counter" already? :)

I think the sales started a bit sloppy but I'm really sure, now that the GP2X's releases are increasing so much and the duration between them shortens even more, the sales might increase in the near future.
Most bugs are ironed out (ok, a lot of) and peripherals are being created.

I'm most eagerly waiting for a docking station and I think most people would like something like that and if they have an USB host, they would buy the gp2x totally sure...
How does that project go, anyway?

Hope you enjoyed it,
Pixman

Around 8,000 worldwide, manufacture is just about catching up with demand now - however once the unit goes mainstream in March there may be shortages again.

there better not be significant hardware changes, that would totally screw us early adopters.

early adoption is just that - the adoption of an early pre-production version that may well change. there have been no guarantees and for all we know the "second edition" could be unrecognizable from the ones we all have now. I don't realistically expect the Second Edition to have any significant changes, however if it does, you have no moral right to complain about it or make demands.

We are early adopters and as a result we have to be prepared to take the consequences. In other words...if you can't take the heat STAY OUT OF THE KITCHEN until things cool down a bit and stop whining. <_<

i was reading through those requests or suggestions, whatever they are, on the official gp2x website, and someone asked if there would be any hardware changes on the second edition

the admin (probably anna hong) replied saying that there would only be software changes in the new edition. This probably _also_ means that the hardware won't be changed, just fixed in certain aspects. So being an early adopter won't be too much of a burden for us, plus we got them first

I guess that means we are stuck with the dodgy joystick then ;)

GPH should at least rotate the assembly 45° so that the diagonals aren't always hit by accident, it is so annoying.

Plus only 8000? It was stated 8000 a month ago, none were sold this month

Rotating it sounds so simple, but would need them to change the board, which I don't think is very likely. I've been looking inside mine wondering if I could rotate it myself. I don't think it's impossible, but it's definitely not something I'm willing to try!

It's a simple problem to fix for the Second Edition. The joystick is very dodgy, I've thought that from day one along with many others. Now that we know for sure what the problem is there really is no excuse for GPH to carry the defect across to the Second Edition. And make no mistake, it IS a defect. I diagonal input bias on a 2D device is a proper design fault. Unless we all plan on producing diagonal shooters?

They are now *AWARE* of this issue so it's their job to solve it before releasing the Second Edition. Same goes for the faulty earphone socket soldering. We have done our bit by agreeing to be guinea pigs for this device, they should honour their side of the bargan and try to fix as many of the issues we discover as possible.

How do we know that they know the problem? They don't read these boards. And if someone tells them they just ignore us anyway. GPH still thinks this thing is only used for movies and MP3s  The diagonal problem doesn't matter for movies.

the point is, when i bought my GP2X i was never told that in the future a second version may be released with changes that i would rather wait for over an early version, despite being an "early adopter"

anyway, i thought the "early adopter" people where the ones with FIRST EDITION slapped onto their 2X under the logo in the top left.

Ditto above. I bought mine after seeing an ad. in a magazine. No mention of early adopter etc. The first I knew was when I received it and there was a letter to that effect in the box.

Suck it up :p . I personally hope there will be a Second Edition, although i doubt it.

I would assume that Craig has said something to them. Hell, I seem to remember him even mentioning talking about it to them.

Allan.

There won't be a 'second edition' thats something liksang made up.

I am trying to make them rotate or use a new joystick, that would be the only hardware change.

The soldering on the headphone port was fixed as soon as it was spotted (within the first 500)

Also, there is further news re the buggy firmware, or rather i'm going to tell you the exact situation, let me explain...

Magiceyes who make the cpu set have a contract with Dignsys who make the basics of the firmware - there is nothing gamepark can do apart from complain at length about the shitness of it.

It is Designsys who are making all these SD reading fuck ups, booting errors etc. not gamepark.

DaveC - 8000 is because none were manufactured for 2 weeks over the christmas period, manufacture is back on now and we will be spending this coming week testing units again. Fingers crossed for hitting 10,000+ by March.

-Craig
