Ok, so your old pal DCGM needs your help :p . Seriously though, I have like 200 bucks in american express gift certificates that are burning a hole in my pocket. Some may say "yo dude, just save them until twilight princess comes out", or "new GTA in 2 months. WAIT IT OUT!!!!1". I say hellz no. time to spend this shit RIGHT NOW :D

Games for the following systems are able to be purchased:

ps2
cube
psp

Those are the only console im interested in buying a new game for at the moment. Any suggestions?? I was thinking maybe shadow of the colossus, but im still torn. I plan on buying rockstar's Bully when it's released in 2006. For now, i want something not too babyish. Maybe something gory (god of war was awesome), or adventure.

ARGH. Being a gamer isn't easy

Any suggestions are welcomed. Im so damned torn :(

ok, did some research myself. Here's what I got:

Animal crossing (cube)
Radiata Stories (ps2)
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (cube)

Any comments on those 3?? If you own the game, PLEASE try to be objective, and if you hate it and regrete your purchase, please tell me.

Thanks guys. Obviously I value your opinions or I wouldn't be doing this :)

I'd agree with those Gamecube purchases, Animal Crossing is a love/hate game but most people get addicted to it, and Fire Emblem has dozens of hours of gameplay.
But DO pick up Metroid Prime 1/2 if you haven't already! Those are unmissable games. And obviously Resident Evil 4, although I'm not a big fan.

It's a shame that I can't suggest anything for the PSP, now if you had a DS, I'd have tons of games for ya :)

As for Shadow of the Colussus, it's hyped a lot as a beautiful, artsy game but then again so was Ico and a lot of people hated that. I chose to focus on the negatives - jerky framerates, a lot of tedious horse-riding, and very minimal gameplay. You pretty much go find a Colussi, climb up it, locate the weak spot, and attack. You do this 10 or 16 or whatever times, then you get a weak ending. I prefer a real plot :)

I have a ds :). Im just not interested in buying games for it now. besides, psymastr is like obsessed with his and he basically suggests games (in an objective fashion, as he's playing them in front of me). That combined with some Game Informer opinions give me a good sense of games on the ds.

perhaps in the near future ill pick up castlevania and a few others :)

I appreciate your opinion on the Shadow of colossus. It helped me a lot, and I think i've ruled that out for now.

I also have RE4 and metroid prime 2. Played them both and beat RE4 like 5 times.

I think i may go with animal crossing for now (plus it's probably cheap by now). I still need some other opinions though! Keep em coming!

I absolutely LOVED shadow of the colossus. Then again, I also loved ICO. I don't know what you mean by "weak story", rico, I thought the story was excellent. The story was supposed to be vague. It is artistically brilliant and also very fun to play. I would HIGHLY recommend.

You should really get some games for your DS!
Here's what I recommend for the DS:
-Castlevania
-Sonic Rush
-Mario & Luigi partners in time
-Mario Kart
-Animal Crossing

For gamecube, you should definitely try Resident Evil 4. It's great.

I read that radiata stories wasn't very good, so i stayed clear of it.

Do you like rpg's much? (I could suggest soooooooooooooo many good ones)

Oh and regarding the ds games: I may pick them up in the future, but for now im not on good terms with my ds. We had some words and now I refuse to touch it :p

well, for rpg's....... i'm not sure where to start :p Do you mind playing ps1 games on your ps2 or do you want to stick solely with ps2 and 'gamecube? (psp doesn't have any rpgs worth mentioning)
For PS2:
-Final fantasy X
-Xenosaga [start with episode 1. Don't play it if you don't like long cutscenes]
-Dragon quest VIII
-Dark Cloud 2
-Kingdom Hearts [if you don't mind disney characters too much.....]

For gamecube:
-Skies of arcadia legends
-Tales of symphonia
-paper mario

Skies of Arcadia is a masterpiece, and somehow Kingdom Hearts works with disney characters!

deadlychicken22: Thanks for the ps2 recommendations. I must get a mod chip or something for region free so I can import KH2 and FFX11. Anyone know the easiest/cheapest way to region-freeify ps2?

I have a ds and looking for a new game. (already have Castlevania <3)
Mario & luigi looks nice, but I heard it's kinda short. I never played the prequal, but loved mario RPG. e.e Still worth paying 30 euro for?
AC looks great, but I'm not sure about it because it never ends, is it really that addictive you keep playing without a goal?

What rpg's do you recommend? I'm looking for a new ps2 game too. :) (or psx is good too. Recently finished FF7 and 9 again :p )
Of your list, I have everything except DQVIII and Xenosaga.
How is DQ7? I only played DQ1, which I really didn't like. e.e
As far Xenosaga, I'm currently waiting for the 1 & 2 remake for the ds, apparantly it's pretty promising. :)

FFXII looks nice, but well, after the FFX-2 flop, not sure if it's worth getting. :p

I picked up FFX-2 as soon as it came out, think it costed 70 euro or something. Was dissapointed by it by the first minute it started, the lousy mtv show, I really regret buying it.

Can't wait for KH2 though. I wonder whatever happened with the deep dive extra movie, it really ruled. :)

FFX-2 flop?! what planet are you on? FFX-2 was sheer brilliance!

FFX: Beautiful story, especially the end. Great music, by Nobua uemetso (sp?), I loved the intro (Otherworld, the metal track), graphics are great, the battle system is too. Almost everything is good about it.

FFX-2: Suddenly, the girls are all hip, in this newest rage: sphere hunting? With their mortal enemies being these funny guys who later turn your friends?
Music that loops every 12 seconds? The intro being an mtv show?
The whole story (story, what story) being cutted to pieces by the missions and all the mini missions.

The graphics where good, granted, and watched the galls changing gave me a kick the first times, but the game got too boring, the story was not compelling at all, the hipness of the game really turned me down, and I had to turn the music off at times.

Square had the possibility of building on a a great story and game like FFX, instead deciding to change it completely, turning it into a flop.

I blame Enix for it. :)

I'm sorry, but FFX-2 is for me the worst in the series, even worse then Mystic Quest for the snes. <.<

Heh, its typical that noone has suggested a PSP game...
I´d really like to buy a good game for it, but i can´t think of anything worth the price...

Currently i´m waiting for Breath of Fire IV to be translated, and Tales of Eternia might also be good...

Are you one of those who hates FF8 too, just because it is different?
I agree, FFX is better, but they're both excellent.
The story isn't about fighting bad guys, it's about helping spira cope with change, and if you play the full story, it all forms together to a masterpiece.
I liked a lot of the music in FFX-2, like the music of the perfect ending, I found it really fit the scene.
MTV concert? That was about Yuna's Clothes being stolen! :S

Hm, perhaps I missed something, I never finished the game...

After all, FFX only starts to get really good after the latter part, with stuff about sin, Tidus' dad, Tidus, Yuna's faith, etc.

And no, not at all, I love FF8, great story, graphics, music (The intro track is great), etc. It was the first ff game I played I believe, exluding FF5 wich I played on a snes emulator when I was 8.

I finished it a couple of times and still love it, I have both pc and psx versions. ;)
It's one of my favorites too in the series. (FF6, FF8, FF7, FF5 and FFX)

And yes, I know it's about Yuna's magical dancing/singing enabling cloths being stolen by Yuna's mortal sphere hunting enemy, but that doesn't beat the fact the intro is a nice few minutes of a gall on a stage singing. :)

I'm really enjoying it, it (and Paper Mario 2) improves on Mario RPG's battle system a lot, makes it less of a chore. But why not buy the cheaper prequel first, for GBA? You can still run it on the DS, plus it's a few hours longer. Although I must admit I prefer the second game.

I say we pin this (or sticky??). Its helpful if someone wants to buy a game and others suggest some based on criteria given.

Hm, good idea, thanks. I might get more of the plot too. :p

I'm gonna get a revolution to play the GC stuff... not enough time left for this generation to warrant another console....
