I've done the first alpha port of my XCade arcade emulator to the GP32; it runs both in emulation on GeePee and on the real unit, getting about 75fps for Space Invaders on the real unit, so far :)

See a screenshot here:

(from within the GeePee emulator, since I don't have a digital camera)

It'll take awhile to get a directory browser and rom loader in there (right now I cheated by building the ROM into the binary, for sake of testing). Once I get it so it can read the ROMs from SMC, I'll post it for people to try out.

XCade is an original arcade emu that predates MAME by a couple years. On the PC it emulates about 100 or 200 arcade games, while on Palm OS it runs about 25 or 30; the GP32 port is from the Palm OS version.. so it shoudl run the basics like PAcman and MsPacman and such, Donkey Kong, Scramble, other basic oldies. Nothign really advanced like StreetFighter.. and no sound except for Pacman..

But its better than nothing, and pretty good for a 2 day porting job so far :)

We'll see how it grows.. but I'm so excited to see it on my GP32 that I had to share :)

If you want to see the Palm OS screenshots, see here:

Don't worry, it'll be free for GP32.

Pretty cool, well done. Pity about the sound but I guess nothing can be done.

Can't wait until it comes out.

Nice job, I was hoping more classic arcade games would get ported over to the gp32. It sounds like you have made some nice progress with this emulator in a fairly short time. Is there a possability of full sound on other games in the future? I'm not complaining though it does look very good and will be awesome to play the original donky kong on the go, keepup the good work.

Theres not much chance of too much sound in XCade/GP32 .. I've just no time to work on a sound subsystem (I've got a few commercial apps to support). It runs a couple dozen arcade games very well on low end machines (it was designed for 486s :) but one of the sacrifices was sound, since its my weak side.

However, if I get some time I might look into a Retrocade port; it'd be a tough one to do well, but would be really cool :) We'll see. RC had full sound of course :)
