Speaking of SD my dad broke my reader and one of my gp32 SMC's and my 256mb SD which were in it!

Wow Sam, it sounds like you are a family of spazzes. First your brother yells at your GP32 breaking it and then you dad jams up a card reader. Maybe tech devices aren't for you guys ;)

Does anyone know if the "phantom firmware updating" phenomenon perhaps has anything to do with the brand of SD Card used? (Much like how only certain brands can upgrade the firmware in the "normal" U-Boot way, due to the number of cylinders and so on.)

If it is indeed related to SD Card brands, maybe there should be a topic, similar to "Firmware Upgrade Compatible Cards And Faq", created with the purpose of compiling a list of cards to avoid using?

Mine was a Lexar 1 gig, but I don't think its a brand thing. I updated the firmware with that card and that worked fine - used it for about 20 hours over two weeks after that update, all the way untill I was bitten by the firmware updating bug.

GP32SPAIN FAQ:

only use card later than switch on the unit, on the menu or when the booting screen has been shown .. in order to avoid the "upgrading now" message.... until there will be a safest firmware (no, I haven`t got a GP2X yet)

I believe that in this latest shipment there might be faulty battery terminals... I get the exact same thing (only i have an AC adapter so i know mine's not bricked)

Well i assumed my batteries are ok, i got the Ansmann 2600 as everyone suggested, i charged them up on Christmas eve but when i put them in I got the lines. I have even tried the cheap ones they are no better. I have cleaned the contacts and the were dirty but no change.

I am testing to see if my panasonic quick charger has charged them properly, i am now charging the 2100 batteries that came with it to see if that makes a difference, but i doubt it.

I did not even get a firmware up grade screen only these lines.

I am sooooo wanting to play this sexy little gadget but I do think it is dead :(

DID I ever say the cards were jammed no!. He knocked it off twice onto this gay wooden floor and smashed it. First time it survived but then it happened again. And the contacts on both cards (the SMC more) are scratched to hell and back.
