Now she is playing it all the time. She sais she would prefer this over PSP.

Does anyone think that 3D games should belong to big screen TV? and handhelds is really meant for 2D games? This is the main reason why I have not gotten myself a PSP yet...Until it drops to $149 and comes with a 10 hours battery, then I will join the crowd for the hack of it... for now the GP2X +DrMD, and all the upcoming emulators will sure satisfy my portable gaming needs until that happen.

I second the opinion. Until we see a handheld with 7"+ screen with true HD resolution, having 3D is not much of an advantage. When an object on the screen is only a few pixels big, having all the 3D blending effects won't make it that muh cooler, which is the whole MS campaign of HD era so that people can see high rez textures. Also, today's games are getting chunkier. I play handheld when I need a half an hour or so gaming fix. Retro games on emulators are perfect fit for the task, also because you can save any where any time.

no they shouldnt, its inevitable that games on handhelds are going onto 3d, just like how colour went onto the game boy way back in 98.
i'd say dont get the psp, i have one but there are way far too many driving games for it, wait a few months and there should be other genre great games.

I like the DS actually, I reckon Nintendo have used handheld 3D to quite good ends there, and the 2D games aren't bad either. Are there any 2D games for the PSP?

well no there isnt really, except for the puzzle games, like lumines or bust a move, there's viewtiful joe rumble thingie thats like super smash bros but thats like with 3d graphics but with the simple left and right sort.

Well, i love RPGs, and i don't think RPGs need 3D to be good, just look at Chrono Trigger, Tales of Phantasia (ok, FFVII is great, but it isn't due to the 2d only, the background were in 2D, and the 3D models are not so beautiful).
I think the GP2X can have great games, it will just be awesome to see some news games (if it could be RPGs ^^ ), but i doubt a firm like Squarenix will risk to developp something for GPH, but when you look back at ASR (even if i didn't play it on the gp32) , maybe we don't need them.
Of course , i dont speak about 2D fighting games (who said neogeo cd ?)

Buy a book of baby pictures or get a shoe catalogue - that should distract her long enough to take it back.

3D/2D on a handheld is fine as long as the majority of games are new. This is the reason why I sold my PSP and kept my DS. Couldn't find those original games. I'll miss playing Lumines and Metal Gear Acid but hopefully I'll buy the PSP again when the price drops. Other wise I'm happy with my GP2X and DS.

This always works:

*point behind person you wish to distract*
"Look a bear!"
*they look behind them!*
"! Where?!"
*snatch*

thats like with 3d graphics but with the simple left and right sort.

Are you perhaps meaning 3D graphics on a 2D plane? :p That's how SSB works (and Viewtiful Joe 1+2 as well ;))

I'm happy with the sort of balance DS seems to have between 3D and 2D- most are 2D, but it seems like there are going to be a fair number of nice 3D ones too. SM64DS was great (never played the original) although it was over too soon (well, 1 week for Bowser, and another one for all 150 stars which isn't too bad a length for a handheld- mind, I played it for days in a row for several hours because it was so addictive- so that may have something to do with it) and perhaps a little easy.

In the case of a women, it'd probably be better to do this:

*point behind her*
"Look! It's those shoes you've been wanting, and they're on sale for 50% off!"
*she turns around faster than lightning*
"Where?!"
*snatch*
"Over at the DSW over there!"
*she runs to the shoe store*

This leaves you some quality time with your GP2X before she gets back. ;P

EDIT: And if that fails, you could always mod her PSP so it LOOKS like the GP2X >:D

Lumines is a game?;)
Lumines is one of the ONLY games that I have enjoyed playing on the psp.

EDIT: I don't own a psp, but i've played my friends' psp's and find most of the games to be boring (i'm not too into racing games..... gta was fun though)

I do not think that 3D should belong to the TV/ non mobile consoles. I think 3D should be mobile also. I do agree about battery life for the PSP but I have seen 4 to 6 hours at times on mine and so has a friend of mine and my brother. Thats not too bad in my book.

But when i ordered my GP2x I jumped on amazon and got rechargable AA batteries. Radovac has some new line AA and AAA battires that charge in 15 minutes. I have been getting at least 4 hours out of them on my Gp2x unit, maybe even more. I can do some tests if anyone is interrested. I could start a new thread on battery life compared to the PSP, DS and the GP2x.

But I'm sure someone has already done it.
