I decided the time has come to get an SD card in preparation for me being let lose on the GP2X, I hadn't anticipated that there were different types. I thought I'd grab a 1GB one for now, but does it matter if it's 'high-speed' or otherwise, and does 'MLC' make any difference? Is there anything else I should look out for?

I did have a look around, and searched the forum, but with no luck... Apologies for what may to many of you seem to be a simple question.

I think it depends on how fast you want your files transferred over.

I've heard some devices are not compatible with MLC cards, and also thought that playing movies might require a high speed card, but was just hoping for confirmation? Anybody else like to add anything before I purchase a cheap but fast card?

I think, but don't know, that the speed of the card doesn't affect movie playback. Having not yet received mine, I am unsure, but I am hoping most cards should work fine, although some people were having trouble with the ones that they got from GBAX, I believe they were branded Kingston.

Actually, the SD card I got from gbax.com when they shipped my GP2X is from a company called integral memory it is 1gb with mlc. I haven't had a single problem with it formatted to fat32 using the inbuilt sd/ms card reader in my laptop.

Here's a list of things I have done with it so far, apologies if you have read this post before.

I am already thinking about buying another one of the same. :)

I got a Kodak one from ebay. I'm pretty sure it's fast, since it's meant for cameras and stuff, but I guess I'll have to put it to the test when I get my gp2x. I also ordered one with my gp2x from gbax... Can't wait.

I just bought a 150x samsung 2 gig one. Hopefully It will work with the firmware upgrade that is supposed to happen next week.
