That lady seemed like a fucking dolt who didnt know what the fuck was going on.

Oh yeah.....these laptops are REALLY going to help starving children and people in poor countries. How about instead of letting them buy fucking laptops for their children with (if any) money they have...how about.....sending them fucking food, you goddamn assholes! I doubt kids in Iraq and shit are really going to need laptops...especially when running away from suicide bombers.

Dumbasses at MIT just want to prove that they are SO superior in technology and shit? So what you assholes invented crap like computer games and the such! STOP! Don't give them a laptop....give them the stuff they NEED, like food, water, clothes, medical supplies.

America has to be THE dumbest country on the world...well no wonder...we're being run by the asshole who wil conceive World War III and enventually bring the Apocalypse!!!

sorry for the language...Im jsut so pissed at my country's dumbness.

I concur with your summation.

1. I've read up on this "100 dollar laptop." Right now, it's costing $150, not $100. Instead of admitting that they're wrong, or working harder, MIT is going to just say that it's better that way. 50% more cost? I love paying extra money, yay! <--- Source: http://theinquirer.net/?article=27835

2. It isn't meant for the third world countries that some of you are thinking of. It's meant for countries with not as much money as America/Europe/etc, but can still feed their families. Any of these places will have cheaper food and other goods that will be cheaper as well, but PCs will cost more than they would normally. A cheap PC solution could be ideal for situations like these.

You can bet ifd it's costing $100 dollars, it costs sod all.

You can't tell me they are going to try and get all governments to buy one for every kid in their country and sell them at cost!

Still as a teacher, for me, it does hold some interest.

Compatibility would be one concern, I bet Mr Gates is lurking somewhere with a juicy big licence deal.....

A cheap PC solution would also be ideal for the poverty stricken in the western world.

Anyone who says there aren't any ppl in the western world who are too poor and misfortunate to access modern technology, will be slapped silly!

Ok. B)

Hello...
£55 odd for a computer isn't THAT cheap.... isn't the revolution urmored to only ocst that much?

Yeah, but its not a computer...its a laptop. Not that it really makes a difference. When I saw the topic, I thought it'd be about ebay . Anyway its stupid because you can get more powerful (and useful) computers and laptops anyway for the same price (used hardware, or build stuff yourself).

But I agree about Bush. We don't need anybody to kill him, if he's as stupid and hated as we all know he is, he has better odds of dieing on his own. And Cheney, well, old age would take care of his problem.

I think it is a cool idea... I wish I could get one when they come out, but they won't be sold individually or anything. The price is lowered because they can only be bought in bulk and I bet the countries that will get them have all the laptops donated to them. Suppose now that they can now download text files to each instead of using text books. They thing is that if they are giving laptops to children of poor countries, they have to expect them to get broken. One might also expect that they might sell their laptop in order to gain food for the family. I think theft of these laptops would be high. Its a neat idea, and I hope it works out, but I really don't see it doing so. OSX on one of these would be tough! That is unless they make a tone-down version. Last time I saw specs on these they were Crappy Celeron 500s! OSX hardly runs that great on my g4 466 and that is way better than a celeron 500. I think Linux would be the best route.

That's my thought on the subject. Love the Crank Handle!
