I wonder what the XGP will be like. It could be a great device or complete crap or anything in between. I'll wait and see. However, I'll definately get a GP2X. What I don't understand is why everyone is so negative about the XGP. I guess they have to justify their decision to get a GP2X instead or something...

What I don't understand is why everyone is so negative about the XGP.

- I think it looks bad
- it's very expensive
- GP spoke about things in work that were really unrealistic (Q3 and Unreal)
- Craig said it might be vaporware
- it seems to be made mainly for the korean communty, as a result of it you won't even understand anything maybe (menus, games, manual,..)
- ...

- I think it looks bad <-- Well, design is not final.
- it's very expensive <-- Really? Maybe a few bucks more than the GP2X but noone knows exactly.
- GP spoke about things in work that were really unrealistic (Q3 and Unreal) <-- Q3 sounds realistic if the thing gets a 3D chip.
- Craig said it might be vaporware <-- Yeah, I'd like him to elaborate on that. From what I know he could be pulling that out of his ass to make the XGP look bad and focus sales on the GP2X. Actually no, I don't think he is that kind of guy, but it's still very vague.
- it seems to be made mainly for the korean communty, as a result of it you won't even understand anything maybe (menus, games, manual,..) <-- We'll have to wait and see. The country specific TV thingy would have been Korean only but I heard they didn't get a license for it so not a problem.
- ... <-- Give me more! :p

Well, after some long converstions about it with GPH when I was in Korea i'm pretty sure it isn't going to happen.

Lots of reasons, Gameparks engineer left, they are not allowed the TV reciever part (refused licence), they have no money, they have no factory.

:)

The thing about the XGP is that it is based on commercial games like the psp, but who is going to develop for them?

I hate Sony, the company, and M$. In fact, all casual gamers and sony fan boys.
Why?
Simple Since the early 80's the GAME companies have been making consoles, which here at gp32x we all love them for. We should give these companies(Ninty,Sega,Atari) our support because are the gaming companies. They have all ways been the first to bring out what gamers wanted eg. Megadrive, Dreamcast. Or the most powerful consoles eg. Jaguar, N64, Saturn. And what thanks have they gotten? to be driven out of their market buy the kind of gamers that read Play magazine or think they know everything because "I stared gaming back on the ps1!!!111". Sony and M$ are not interested in giving gamers new epirinces but bring out the same old thing on more powerful hardware. Lots of small companies will be put out work as the industry we love so much is ripped apart by piggish big companies.

~I don't think it'll happen to Nintendo for a while yet though, since they are the only profitable major console makers.

- I think it looks bad <-- Well, design is not final. <-- AFAIK they made a vote and this design won, so I don't expect any changes except the number thing
- it's very expensive <-- Really? Maybe a few bucks more than the GP2X but noone knows exactly. <-- they said a price, I don't remember it exactly, but I assume it was like the price of two GP2X and I can't even afford a 1gb-sd-card anymore after buying the GP2X ;)
- GP spoke about things in work that were really unrealistic (Q3 and Unreal) <-- Q3 sounds realistic if the thing gets a 3D chip. <-- the time they said they were working on porting it Q3 wasn't opensource and I'm sure that they don't have the money for a licence

- ... <-- Give me more! tongue.gif <-- I don't think that they'll get many commercial developers and their goal is to get the same amount of companys devolping for the XGP as for the GP32 (and there weren't many)

Well the benefit of two financial superpowers fighting it out for console superiority is that hardware gets much more powerful because of competition.

It is mostly up to the third party game makers to come up with games for them. Most of the content comes from third party so blame them if you don't like the games.

it costs them money whether they make something completely new or not. If they don't make something new, it's because they want as much money as they can get and think that something new is less likely to give them that money than what they've been doing. Either that, or they're just stupid and/or lazy. And that's why we keep getting the same crap... but we keep getting the same crap from Nintendo too. It's not just from Sony or Microsoft, and even if it was, like someone already said before, 3rd parties make the games for those 2 systems. You can't blame sony for what someone else makes on their system(you can blame them for allowing it on the system though). I'm pretty much fed up with all console gaming at this point. It's not just the fault of Sony and Microsoft. They're not helping, but neither is Nintendo. Nintendo does give us different things, but they're stupid anyway, and I don't like the games they make. That's why I have my GP32, and that's why I'm planning on getting a GP2X... so that I can play the old games I know I love wherever and whenever I want to.

Heres my top portables (this gen, or so to say)
1. Nintendo DS
2. GP2X
3. PSP
4. Tapwave (kind of dead though)
5. Gizmodo
6. XGP
7. PDA
8. Cell phone

And so far I only have a DS and a gp2x (its not in my hands yet of course), So I don't see getting a xgp any time soon.
