how did they even get money to make new systems? im a newb but from what I am reading is that they didnt even have that many popular commercial games made, and usually systems that dont have 3rd party support usually die..... enlighten me!

GPH were likly able to gather a group of investors. Any money that came from us for the GP32 likely went the Gamepark and not GPH unless it was in their pay checks before separating.

They'll most likely be miniscule figures compared to the PSP and DS. What should really attract potential developers to the GP2X is GPH's forward-thinking attitude towards homebrew and the active community.

On the subject of sales figures, does anyone think the GP2X will sell as a PMP device?

Soley on it no, but together with everything else yes. I love the idea of putting videos on the gp2x, this is a very important thing to me. I can play my favorite old games that I missed and watch movies/shows. The music part does not interest me, thats what an ipod is for.

I actually bought the GP32 for it'e PMP abilities because everything similar to it cost about 3 times MORE. As it stands there's only 2 other devices I know of that could rival it for PMP, One is a virtually unheard of media player with a slightly larger scree thant only plays Mpeg4 from SD card but will not play games and the other is the PSP which is still more expensive and has more expensive Memstick media.

So I think it will do well if enough people know about it... but the Emulation aspect could make it a target if it gets too well known.

The figures are not for comparing with PSP and DS but the Zodiac, the Gametrac, different mobile phones and PDAs. If you take into consideration the very aware community, I don't think they would compare bad. 10.000 units of their game sold are a lot for most of the devs I'm talking about.

Never heard of the Zodiac?

How could I not with you around OrR. :D

But yeah I even heard of it before the GP32. I ruled it out at the time because it was still 100 bucks more than I wanted to spend being just about to come out back then. And I didn't count it with the two others because I just dont think about it.

Sorry dude.

Around 30,000 units is the answer.

let's see... native GP32 price is about 180 USD or so...

times 30,000.....

5 Mil and a bit of change is what my calculator got, but I was sloppy and rounded things up and down.

180 usd is not the price gamepark gets for the units....

True... Between the hardware costs and the retailers who sell the units, GP probably didn't get anywhere close to $180 per unit.

I hope the GP2X sells better... let's help them out a little by talking about the GP2X on any gaming discussions that we see on forums that we regularly visit outside of the GP32 community - indirect advertising. :)

I have been... I've mentioned it on like 2 other forums. We get a few independant game companies re-releasing slightly older titles for GP2X, we'd have all those support forums to advertise on too... Just by asking about the game or asking for hints about "How to get past Level 13 on the GP2X version"

Just a thought.
Anyone thought of posting something on PlanetQuake about the GP32 version?

30,000 GP32's sold :blink:confused: This is what is written in the GBAX (GP32) review: "Already 150,000 GP32s have been sold and its not even supposed to have been released outside Korea, this system is getting a fantastic underground following."

The 150,000 quote comes from someone interviewed at gamepark, I think they either translated it wrong, or GP were being 'optimistic'

Wow, pretty optimistic I must say! But 30,000 units for an underground handheld system are good number having in mind that Gamepark didn't make the mistake that Zodiac did buying a few big licences that no one will want and Madden NFL 2005 have put them in the grave forever.
