Hi all, my other topic was filled with useless info so I restarted it. :D

Let's get to the point, IS ANYBODY WILLING TO REMAKE MGS FOR THE GPX2(GP2X)? (when it comes out)

@Omars: i just posted my thoughts in the other thread before I saw this one. hope they help (and possibly remove that "no deadlychicken's allowed" notice :D ). Anyways, good luck.

Locke had a good go at it for GP32 here. From the looks of this it is certainly possible but would take a lot of time and effort (remember the original was written by hundreds of paid people in a software house and a remake is down to a few people).

OMars,

I saw that other thread. You seem to have a very limited concept of what is involved in creating a game like MGS. There's a reason why Konami lists dozens of names in thecredits for a game like that. It's not something one guy just throws together in his bedroom.

You've gone from being naive, to being annoying IMO. Nobody is just going to say "yes OMars, I'll stop my life right now and get to work making that MGS remake for you!" Now, could someone possibly make a 3D stealth game similar to MGS for GP2X eventually? Maybe. But that's a HUGE maybe, because a game of that scale takes a tremendous amount of work, by more than one person. And even if you plan to sell it commercially, you'd be better off just making it for the NDS or PSP instead where you know the work might payoff financially. And any devs capable off pulling off a game of that quality are well aware of that.

Aw, okay, whatever.........Sorry DeadlyChicken :D

:( Sorry everybody, but prophet, really, I never said get it done the next day and there are some dev teams that could make this over say a couple months...

If anybody wants to I'll send you the ROM for the GBC. :) (so you know what the story is)

Dude, if you want a 3d version that's not happening. You might see a few drunken programers try to bash a half a game together on a dare for the PC but once they sobber up they'd just be likely to drop it and go play the real thing.

Now a sprite based clone of MGS? possible... I mean there's the guy who's remaking GTA3 for NES. Seems like it'll take forever but then again GTA is 70% side missions.

Moving to correct thread.

And we get a lot of requests for remakes (Final Fantasy, Resident Evil...) Why not just play Metal Gear on fMSX?

1. It doesn't have to be 3D.

2. It's not as long as GTA3.

3. I don't want to emulate it, like I have said before "an extra four buttons and 6 times the pixels.

4. You don't have to make it now, just find some space in your time until the GP2X is launched!

P.S. Who else wants this one aside from Davey G and me?

I would like a lot of things, but most developers won't spend the time required to remake a game that is already possible through emulation. Yes, it would look better if redone, but I think most dev's would rather get us something new that we don't have yet.

 Screw it, you guys obviously won't do a 2d game that only lasts 10 hours or less.

P.S. you can continue your little pac-man clones and such I'm going to search another website for developers :p

It doesn't matter how long the game itself takes to play, it matters about how much time it takes to write the rendering code, the engine, the guts of the game, design the software properly, produce editors for the datafiles (and the definitions of the datafiles within).

I would clock just the production of a baseline engine and content generation core within at least four months for a one man team, with another six to seven months tacked on for generating the content you actually need for the game and then another few months for testing, releasing and bug patches.

That's baseline -- that doesn't include extra polish or unique features. Just replicating the features of the GBC MGS.

Good luck finding other people to do your work for you!

I'm aware of what it looks like. I've beaten it several times. My estimate was somewhat conservative, but I bet it closely mirrors the actual development time of the GBC MGS. Keep in mind this would be for a one-man band, and is more or less the amount of time I take per PC project that I build in my free time.

What it looks like is largely irrelevant to the amount of time it takes to complete, especially if you were to do it right (i.e. in C, properly optimized, with a decent set of tools) and leave functionality for future improvements.

Me and my friend did have a go at porting part of a the tanker level in MGS2 on to the GBA (needless to say that we didn't get very far at all), given all the small quirks in the game, AI, level layout, how to implement the weapons and items I say ravuya's estimate is not far off the mark..

I can do the graphics if you're willing to program, I've even got MG1 and MG2 midis if you want them...........

P.S. if you don't have time just spread it out through the days(it might take longer but I'm willing to wait, also if you do agree we can start planning early{until the Gp2x comes out :D }).

To all who think this would take too long, I reply "everything worthwhile takes time"
