checking on the q&a section of the gpx2 site, it was mentioned that as well as changing the gpx2's name, GPH will also be changed too!!

Any suggestions on what they should rename the company?

Ah, shit!

Then I will have no success with the name I submitted... (GP Age)

they also said that you can still add GP to the title if you wish although it is not necessary.

Hah! I figured something like this was gonna happen... That explains why they want to rename the console. They can't keep gamepark in their name anymore, so they can't call it GP-anything.

Yes, they can. They also said you can still submit names with GP in it. They only said GP is not necessary.

GP dosnt have to mean Gamepark. Though I'd bet they wouldnt mind keeping the GP in the title just to snag a little name recognition.

I just started thinking of names that use the general meaning of Gamepark like Playground is almost an exact match for word meaning. (PGX2? :p)

yeah I know. :p

Yeah I pretty much gave up on trying to come up with a name already myself. It's far too unlikly I could come up with a good one that would stand out amidst all the bad ones they're getting.

Plus not knowing what they're thinking exactly or how they envision the system's identity right now makes it even harder to gauge what they think is a good name. We'll just have to sit back and hope someone stumbles on the perfect combination of words by accident other wise we'll be stuck carrying around our shiny new "Asscrack" or something equally embarrassing.

Actually I rememebr a company that had to change its name when it was moving into the UK market. I forget what country they were based in but I do remember that the company was a genetic engenearing company. Over there their company name was fine. but over here not quite so. Their company name was Genitals  ....

I guess the point of this post is I wonder how many names we make up for the new GP will mean something obscene over there?

I doubt very many of them. Asian languages share very little in common with english and other languages similar to it. So unless people are just spouting random syllables there's little chance of makeing the Koreans blush.

For the most part the problem is people rattling off names in english that might not go over correctly because of a lack of comprehension. For instance I saw someone who was probably intending to use the word "Vagabond" (1 : moving from place to place without a fixed home) which in itself isn't so bad a name but instead they called it "Vagrant" (1 a : one who has no established residence and wanders idly from place to place without lawful or visible means of support b : as a prostitute or drunkard).

You can see how bad this would be for english speakers if they chose the wrong word.

Nomad would be better, but there was Sega Nomad already... There is one more alternative - Homeless. "Homeless will be released in October." :D

Edit:
I like positive names like Colibri or Dolphin, but I wrote that, so it won't win. :)

the problem with so many names is that they are the copyright of other companies. Just like 3 of the 4 last suggestions. nomad is obvious, dolphin is owned by nintendo, codename for the gamecube and colibri make pens!!

I don't think even GPH are stupid enough to get themselves in some legal battle over the systems new name. If it were possible, i just wish they would stick with what they have already chosen.

I know about Dolphin and Nintendo, but they don't use it and dolphin is kind of animal, so I think you can't patent it so strictly. That way you could copyright every word in encyclopedia and no one could use them anymore. And if Colibri is company making pens, I can't see problem in that. Pens brand is something completely different to handheld product name.

Unless it gets a light pen.

Apple Records sued Apple Computers after *sound* was introduced to the Macs in serious fashion... They had a deal that Apple could use the brand, as long as they don't make any sound/music business.

aw, crap. I completely forgot that anybody even mentioned vagabond in this thread. I was looking for synonyms for nomad and found it... but I did a search to see if anybody else submitted it. It didn't find any entries, so if somebody else already had it, sorry about that... but anyway, you could also call it the Hobo. According to www.thesaurus.com that's a synonym.

I also submitted globetrotter, just for shits and giggles. If they pick that, I'm gonna laugh my ass off.
