Well reading about the Tapwave helix, and seeing the cool 3D solution provided to tapwave and Nokia by the 'fathammer' engine, I thought i'd email their european office to see if they might provide it for the GP. Here's hoping. Of course gamepark would probably have to pay a fee, so I guess it won't happen. Turns out most of them came from ST and Amiga demo crews, which made me smile, 'cos I grew up on demo's.

Anyway here's the email:

"Hello,

I was just wndering if you had any plans to port fathammer to the GP32 handheld console? The machine is ARM based and due for a european launch in the near future. As a games artist in the UK, it would be nice to know that a descent solution was available on that platform, when it has it's european launch. Also I must say that I am very impressed with what I have seen on your site so far, and if you ever get chance, check out the demo scene that is growing around the GP32."

And here's their site.

SOunds good. I doubt they'll reply, but who knows - if they do, we might be in for a decent 3D engine to work with at last :). Although I hear that some peopl ahev made great progress with some of them already... (see Mithris' 15-day entry :) )

Yeah he's done some great work. But by 'engine' I mean also all the support tools to get work in from max, level editors, sound converters, all that stuff you normally get with middleware- just let's you start development without all the time consuming low level stuff, and it means you can employ less people (therefore less risk) 'cos you won't need engine or tools programmers (well, you'll need some, you would probably want to build on what they give you). As a bonus they would probably port the games I mentioned to get people interested. I'm not sure how they are selling it though, it could be the device manufacturer pays the license, or per developer, or a combination of both.

As a comercial idea, it won't work unless we get that european launch.

That engine looks great, maybe with a european release we may get it ported
