Gbax 2005 Reactions & Reflections

There was some talk about saving? if not correct me.

But i managed to get normal saving working so i dont have to use save state (except for games like ice climbers that dont have saving).

All you gotta is Reset the rom after saving it normally in the game and voila, once u shut-off your gp32 the normal save will be there.
I tested this with 2 Snes games. Super Mario World And Terranigma and normal saving seems to work just fine.

Mame GP 1.2 is awesome as are all the F-Day Previews.
Now I am REALLY looking forward to F-Day!

Ryleh and the rag-tag team of beta testers over at retrodev get a cookie each from me. And by that, I mean a circle. And by circle I mean that I'm too tired to be posting right now.

Anybody understand what the heck I was saying there?

Anyhow, enjoyed the GBC emulator a lot, appreciate that S-Ram will still be implemented, seeing as it's the only way to transfer states from PC-based emulators like VisualBoy or Boycott onto the GP32.

Just because people still want another SNES emulator doesn't mean they don't know there probably won't be one... I know there probably won't be one, but I still hope there will be, some day. Do you NOT want SNES emulation to be better than it is right now?

No I don't want any better SNES emus. I like them slow with dodgy sound like they are now ;)

Seriously I just realize that there will not be a decent SNES emu on the GP32. There just aren't any coders with enough skill that are working on it. Actually there are NO coders at all that are working on it, so forget it.

A little review for the gp32 entries:

Another World: Download n/a
?/5

BangGP: It`s a Moorhuhn style shoot`em`up. A bit hard, as the indians in the first level are moving faster as the cursor, so I don`t really like it. And I don`t really know what`s different to the old version.
1/5

Bocket: Okay, it didn`t crash as I said before, I just hit Quit by accident. But I don`t really know what to do, as I couldn`t look far into the game yet.
?/5

F-Day Preview: Now this one is nice! I only tried fGB32 so far and I`m really stunned. I think it`s much better than the previous release and it`s running at a much faster speed! Go check this out! Seriously!
4.5/5

Ghost Pix: My favorite entry! One hell of a Fenix game! It`s a Marios Picross Clone with a lot of puzzles and a nice spheric soundtrack! Wonderfull! I would give this first place of gp32 entries!
5/5

Gp Shoot: Nice Metal Slug clone written in Fenix. I really like the graphics, but there is no sound, and difficulty is quite high, so I didn`t get that far. I most of the time couldn`t see where the enemies shots came from.
3/5

GP Sudoku: Now this is a nice one, too. Only for people with a lot of patience, but the interface is very nice done! Good thing is this puzzler has savegame support, so you can continue your game. Only thing it lacks is sound and a nice background music.
4/5

Happy Giant: Erm, wtf is that thing :D The graphics are really nice, but I don`t know what I am supposed to do. Is it just jumping on people? I accidentely made a combo, don`t know how the hell I did that. And I never now how far that giant is jumping, so I think it`s really hard to play.
2.5/5

Hex Pistols: Okay it runs now, last time it crashed after splash screen. It seems like this is just a demo with nice music and gfx in 60s/70s style. It is very nice to watch.
3.5/5

Hugo32: Okay, now it runs (wtf was up with my smc last night?). And I have to say it is really great! Nice shmup! Fery polished graphics, very nice weapon upgrades, I really like it. I would give it second place!
5/5

Mame 1.2: Didn`t try that one yet.
?/5

The Mini Game Project: My game, others have to judge over that :D

Pins: Another map thingy, crashed on my gp32 after some usage, but it`s completely unneccesary for me, cause I live in Germany :D
1/5

Quiz Compo: Very funny short quiz about scumm games. I completed itin one go, so it`s not very hard or longlasting.
2.5/5

Qwarage: I really like that shmup as I`m a big fan of RRootage and Warning Forever, but there is a lot of work left to do, since it`s impossible to dodge must of the bullets.
3/5

Rotor: Another very nice Fenix release with stunning graphics! Really nice space shmup! I like that type of games, and the background looks fantastic, a bit like Iridion2 on GBA, but I have to say I found it quite to hard. The enemies bullets looks like the bullets of your ship which makes it very hard to identify and avoid them.
3.5/5

Space Dodger: Version 1.5 of the Space Dodger port :D I really like it, though I let others judge, as I was involved in the porting :)

Shoot em up construction kit: Wasn`t able to mess around with this thing yet, but it looks quite interesting. I definatly have to try to make a nice little shooter with it!
?/5

Spotz: It looks like another Sudoku clone, just with circles of different colors instead of numbers. But I prefer the one with the numbers.
3.5/5

Twins: It`s a memory game written in Fenix. Even though I have the BLU+ runtime and every other Fenix game uns fine, this one is producing the blu+ white line. But what I saw, it has a nice menu and interface, but memory is jus a bit to boring for me.
2/5

Tyrannosphere: Couldn`t get it to run.
?/5

Warlock: Very cool VNS release! A lot of work was put into this! I can`t really judge this, cause I didn`t advance far into the game.
4/5

I think that the Hugo32 was really fun, have been playing it for an hour now :)

I too didn't notice much of a speed increase with Mame 1.2 :( I thought it was supposed to be a very big performance increase? I did notice a few games did run better.

fGB is friggin sweet, I only wish I had more GBC games that were worth playing on it.

Only tried the emulators from Rlyeh but very impressed.

The Gameboy emulator runs the Colour games much much faster than before, previously these were just too slow but i didnt bother with many but now i'm going through all the GBC collection i have offline and online to find games to try out on that, very impressed with it.

Being an ex Spectrum owner i love fZX32, probably my favourite emulator on the GP32. The new version is very smooth, took a while to figure out when i had the keyboard controls up that Enter was one of the buttons ! The sound is much more improved and its just brilliant.

The MSX emulator is just like the others excellent, not too sure about MSX games but i enjoy going through the list of games on the net trying to find some good ones to try, considering this machine was out the same time as the C64 and Speccy the MSX games are very very good specially all the Nemesis style games. Plus Penguin Kun Wars II works on it which is very good !

Just like the MSX, the Colecovision emulator is fun to try. Again its great trying to find out the good titles for this machine, a lot of good early arcade hits for this.

MAME doesnt seem that much faster but just a fraction, either way i still love this emulator as i've found many games for it which work very well so i enjoy playing this one a ton.

I must admit after reading Craigs comments about how many emulators there are (i wouldnt call 4 f*ckin crazy) i thought there would be the full range.

But after getting a taster of Rlyehs emulators i cant wait for the main course !! The big expections of fMAME and fSNES !!! These could be just amazing, lets wait to find out !!!

Great time as always to be a GP32 user

Quiest, i liked your minigame thing very much, but is there anyway to quite one game and go to another without having to turn the gp32 on and off again??

Also, FGBC or whatever, my Pokemon Pinball is now unplayable. I will have to keep the old version just for pokemon Pinball since the flash thing it does when the ball goes from one screen to another is so annoying that I can't play more than 2 mins of the game now.

The flying pig game was awesome, well done, as was that other shooter Rotor? I'm at work now so i don't remember, but it was really well, just needs more powerups and levels.

another world is now available !!!

sorry for ot post ! but i think everyone here wants to know that ;P

My wife uses Mame 1.1 to play old classics like new rally x etc.

So I asked her to play a game then I switched the files and I told her to play again. from what she told me and what I saw, Mame 1.2 is about 20% faster with rallyx and the sound is also improved :D

She's well happy now. before it was 85% of actual speed and now its bang on, if not faster than the original :D

gp32_console :D

Edited for typo
