Psp Umd Image Dumped...

Is it true this time then?

Obviously I know little of this stuff but what's the possibility of running ripped UMD games from the memory stick?

yeah its tue, and the possibility is pretty high also as there is allready a execlude game from memorystick feture in the bios wich is ment for demos, the problem with running homebrew this way is currently that it needs to be encrypted/signed, wich the original propably alrleady are, we will see.

So I can play games from the memory stick, like I said.

*sigh*

virtually everyone on this board uses roms released in the past by groups like this. Think of it as archiving.

Hmm, from the (suggested) size of PSP games at the moment, you would need to buy 1 memory card for each 1 - 2 games that you want. Easier and cheaper to just buy the games.

They'll probally get compressed via the process of removing video / undesired languages etc like most other console "scene" releases. At least thats what someone told me anyway. Or something. ;)

Vampire_Chronicle_The_Chaos_Tower_JAP_PSP-PARADOX [407.4MB in 29 files].
Wipeout_Pure_USA_PSP-PARADOX [132.9MB in 10 files].
Ridge_Racers_JAP_PSP-PARADOX [491.4MB in 35 files].

Wipeout looks pretty small.

A 1gb stick would do for a couple of games and a 2gb stick would obviously do for more.

I know I'd rather have multiple games on a memory stick than having to bring out and swap UMDs everytime.

Like the GP32, having everything on one memory device is a huge positive for me.

Yeah 'cos I'm sure that you'll buy a real copy of each game you download

They should be proud, there is alot of work that goes into this sort of thing. I guess if you're not into warez you wouldn't care.

Squidge: Memory sticks are rewritable, so if you want a differant game on delete the old one but keep it and the saves on your computer.

This is all theory though, there is no way to run these yet.

EDIT: Sounded like I was talking to a kid there, I mean this is what I would do.

haha, the debate begins.

However, assuming that you buy a copy of each game you download, am I the only one who prefers having it all in one place? When I use my PSP out and about, it's rarely on 'long trips' - it's always short journys on the train etc. I never bring more than one UMD (the one that's in the PSP). I like my PSP in the glove case since it's easy to fit in my pocket - it's all about the portability for me, and that means less things to carry, so if I can have a number of PSP games on one memory stick then hooray.

What about battery life as well? Games that require a lot of reading from the UMD wont need to do it, or have I got the wrong end of the stick (no pun intended) there?

Oooh, just read that the first PSP homebrew game has been released.

Only works on 1.0 Jap PSP. Nice one Bast for persuading me not to upgrade firmware.

I know they are, but they can only be erased a finite number of times before they become useless, but it seems that they are much smaller than I've seen elsewhere anyway - 130mb is tiny!

Hmmm, I see that even though UMD image dumps are useless, people are distributing them all over the net already, and they are not exactly difficult to find. Maybe I should download one to see what the contents of a UMD is like.
