I know a bit of visual basic and just started a tutorial in C++ using Bloodshed's DevC++ (its free :D ) and was wondering what I would need to know to begin programming for the GP32. What tools do you need to begin programming and designing the graphics and where do I begin?
Thanks
Ben

Edit: I actually attempted to make an RPG for computer with VB but the way I had the computer draw the sprites made it slow down a TON and there was a short lag when you tried to do anything.

You can use any text editor for coding, or Borland, VC++ or any number of others.
For images I believe it's anything that can save as a bmp, in which case, the gimp

In case it helps, HERE'S the RPG I started in VB. If I am going to learn C++ where is a good place to start? (In VB I just taught myself using a book I got and the MSDN library ) Should I start learning text based programming (in a DOS window) or should I learn to create windows and graphical things right away?
Thanks,
Ben

I reccomend downloading Bruce Eckel's "Thinking In C++" volumes 1 and 2. The are free, and although they are mainly about C++, they have a section on C, too. They are textbook quality (vol. 1 was a textbook from McGrawHill) and although they don't talk about the GP32, what they do talk about is the universal C and C++ functions.

Read them and then download GCC and Mirkos SDK from his (Mirko's) website. I've only read to chapter 3, plus Mirko's docs, and started "hacking" away...I need to read more though, I've hit a brick wall in my limited C/C++ knowledge.

I haven't tried any IDE's though. Just notepad, make, and a few .bat files (batches) I whipped together.

Hope it is of help, I am a noobie myself. (Except for my previous experience in Qbasic and Rapid-q (a free VB clone), and a little HTML).

Code on! gp32_console :)

Edit: Bruce Eckel's website is mindview.net. Mirko's website is mirkoroller.de
