well... I have about 30% of the romsets (130 romsets) out of the full list provided by Franxis for use with his Mame port. Downloaded the latest version of ClrMame Pro, and Franxis' .34 dat file. Now, all the roms I have are from between v .74 and v.90. Well... as I predicted, I use ClrMame to 'fix' them for use on the older version of mame, and of those, once they have been 'fixed' and put onto my SMC, about half of them just outright don't work. They show up in the lists of the various fxe's, but when I start them, they give a message showing varios files are not being found/unable to load, and will not play.

So ClrMame does indeed have problems converting much newer roms to be compatible with much older versions of mame... I had mentioned I was having problems like this when trying to run older stuff on my Xbox Mame port. Well I dunno if anyone else is having this problem already, but if you are having problems like this you know it's ClrMames fault, most likely not Franxis' port.

Here is a list of most of the games that gave errors of "file not found" or "unable to load rom" (basically the same thing).

Bomb Jack
Mega Force
Solar Warrior
Jungle King
Kyokuo Tiger (sp?)
Slap Fight
Twin Cobra
Flicky
Ninja Princess
Snow Bros.
Galaga
Tower of Druaga
Xevious
Contra
Gradius
Galactic Warriors
Pac Man
Ms. Pac Man

There were more than a few others but I got tired and didn't write them down. Again, these all were either v .90 or v.74 roms (mostly v.90).

well i think there's nothing wrong with CLRmame and you have bad dumps or something.

Bombjack works fine for me
JungleKing works fine for me

those are the only 2 of the list you have that I have as well.

Bast is correct.

I have completely up to date roms, and I had to find a website containing roms for 0.37 for them to actually work - Because of the differences in the roms between 0.34 and 0.94, clrmamepro has problems getting a lot of the missing files.

Some games for you to add to the list.

Gauntlet
Gauntlet II
Marble Madness
Galaxian (Which is missing two files even from 0.37, that clrmamepro can't rebuild from clones!)

CLRmame is working just fine and the mame port for the gp32 is working just fine the problem is that you don't have the correct roms for it. You mentioned yourself that the roms you have are for v.74 through v.90. The version that gp32mame is ported from is a far older version than what you have compatible roms for. Since then updates have been made to the roms that mame uses. Alot of rom sets have been renamed and redumped so that they are able to be emulated more acuratly. clrmame will not convert your roms from one version of mame to another version it will simply let you know when you are missing needed files and will make sure that the roms that you have are correctly named for the version of mame that you are trying to run. So onece again everything is working fin you simply have the wrong roms.

Correct.

The misunderstanding is that clrmame will actually "make" old roms from new ones, that is only partially true. If like me you only keep the latest up-to-date mame roms around, then you will have to hunt around for some of the older ones that have drastically changed since 0.36. If a certain rom in a romset has been dropped or redumped you need to find the missing or old dump to get a working romset for franxis' mame.

I got Slap Fight working, although the screen seems to be shifted halfway down the screen (in both vertical and horizontal mode). Strange.

well some games depending which version it was for contain less files because some where built into MAME

What are you talking about? No roms where built into mame, some roms are split up and share files between diffrent versions of the same game but no roms are built into mame.

So I'm right and wrong. Yeah I guess I kinda misunderstood exactly what ClrMame's purpose was... but I did kinda figure there was only so much it could do as well.

This is why I posted in Franxis thread, my concerns that he was using an older port of mame (I posted the same to Ryleh who later stated he actually was basing his port on mame .90). I figured there would be many roms that simply could not be 'fixed' in ClrMame to get working in Franxis' port. Everyone just replied to me not to worry that ClrMame would take care of it. But now as I predicted lots of people are having problems and not able to get a lot of the roms working. I dunno about you guys but I have had no luck tracking down the older romsets. And I have looked... hard.

Well... kinda sux for those less resourceful of us who can't get our hands on the older roms :( What was a great day to celebrate has become more a day of frustration than anything....

Okay, I have a complete 0.91 set, used CLRMAMEPRO with the steps I explained in the other thread and are only missing about 13 out of the 600+ games.
That's not too bad, is it?

BTW: If you're missing a single rom inside a zip, just enter it in google.
Mostly always helps.

So this means for every version of MAME you need to get an entirely new set? So if Rlyeh releases his MAME and it is ported from a different version we have to try to find ROMs for that exact version all over again? This is crazy. Many places that you find them don't even tell you what version the ROMs are so how do you know what will work with what MAME? This is pretty confusing
