I want to Upgrade from teh 0.8 Beta to the latest 1.0 version BUT I want to Save all my passwords that I have autosaved etc... How do I do this ?

I have been trying for ages and All I can import over is the Bookmarks but no passwords :(

all my passwords *seem* to be saved in a text file called signons.txt.. not sure what it is for 0.8.

I've done this a whole lot of times, so take heed.

Go into your C:\Documents and Settings[windows xp username]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles[some random letters].default\ directory. You'll need to disable hidden files unless you type it straight to the address bar.

Grab the files:
bookmarks.html
bookmarks.bak
cert8.db
cookies.txt
formhistory.dat
history.dat
key3.db
prefs.js (careful with this one if moving PC -> Mac)
search.rdf
secmod.db
signons.txt

Some of those might be pointless, but meh. Now hopefully you haven't yet upgraded. Copy those files somewhere, uninstall 0.8, install 0.9, copy files back over (the random letters in the profile may of changed).

If you HAVE upgraded... well I think they install to the same directory so you may be screwed there.

It should be noted that from 0.9 onwards Firefox seems to upgrade itself thus removing the need to do this (previously you -could- just install over the old version, but once it messed up my entire UI and is not recommended). Still useful for migrating your data to another PC or something.

yaustar: signons.txt stores usernames, I think key3.db stores the passwords with some weak encryption applied.
