Future Drmd Release?

Sorry, Frolik. I did read your emails but my memory's really crap and if I don't respond to emails then and there, I usually forget about them. But to answer your questions, I'll see if I can find a cpu setting for 150Mhz and I'll take a look at the Zombies ate my Neighbors bug you reported after I've added SRAM support and RF support.
Hey no problem, I just wanted to check that emailing is the best method for sending you feedback... DrMD is shaping up better than anyone could ever have expected so there's no complaints here!

I like the idea of a delete function. If it is added, could there be the option to delete any savestates/settings/SRAM/etc too? But make sure you have the option to just delete the game on it's own too.

ThanX

Another usefull bit would be a favorites section on the start of the rom selector, for quicker selection of, say, four recently used roms. Similar to the font selector in MS Office products.

Though I hear the file selector will be wrap-around in the next version, that helps. :)

And the B button does exactly the same thing as A button... My spinal cord has been conditioned to use B to go backwards/cancel anything... :p

I would find a function to automatically bind a key configuration to a game quite useful. So that when the game is loaded it automatically loads your chosen key config as well. It would save a lot of hassle when changing roms, what do you guys think?

BTW, I was playing splatterhouse 2 fullspeed with sound today, it just made me realise what a totally great guy reesy is!

I fully agree. If this is at all possible, it would be an excellent addition since I have to map my buttons very often and tend to forget my config for each game

He's the fuckin man

:D

The current key config is saved with each save state? I would have thought that was enough, but I'll see what I can do.

Oh and I'll look into a delete rom function, I don't think delete file is currently in mr mirkos sdk so I might have to find some code from somewhere.

i love DRMD because the games have sound, but i find that the handful of games i have play better on FGEN with frameskip of 2 at 132mhz than DRMD plays at 156mhz. Is the auto frameskip thing wacked out? Take gunstar heroes. I can play it without sound at 132mzh frameskip 1 on FGEN and it plays brilliantly, but on 156mhz w/sound on DRMD it is too fast and choppy. Sonic1 with sound on FGEN at frameskip 2 at 132mhz plays alot smoother than DRMD with sound at 156mhz.

Is there any plans for future release to have frameskip options instead of auto frameskip. I notice that auto frameskip causes problems with the Emulators that I use on my pocket pc, makes the game too fast and choppy, but a constant frameskip of 1 or 2 makes them work perfect.

Old version, wait to see the newer ones. Plus fGEN doesn't emulate sound hardly at all, no Z80 emulation, so of course it will be faster with one less CPU to emulate ;)

Its to do with how the sound is currently emulated, hopefully I'll fix this soon :)

Hopefully the new way won't slow down emulation though. Usually more accurate emulation means slower emulation. It is pretty playable now at 144, it would be a bummer to have to go to 166 to get the performance that it is at now at 144. Since there are only a handful of games that suffer from this it would be a shame to slow down everything that works now because of those few. Of course I don't know that a different sound emulation would slow it down. If it does there is a solution.

Maybe you could have both sound cores in there and select through the menu which to use. So you get the faster speed in the games that work with the current core, or you can select the slower more accurate core for the games that need it. You could even have a config file for each game so when you load the ROM it would set the sound to accurate and 166 automatically.

Fgen is loads faster, no doubt about that. So if you find games that work better in Fgen then use Fgen..I won't hold it against you ;).

With regards frameskip, I find the opposite from you. I always find fixed frame skip causes games to be really choppy, but I've said this loads of times and no one believes me. So to prove you all wrong I'll add it, then you can all see for yourselves. But if it works better no one is allowed to say...told you so.. or I'll have a paddy :)

Agreed on one point, I would prefer the emulation not get any slower to fix sound in a handful of games...

You guys are going crazy with recommending all these options, if you all had your way DrMD would become a pretty complicated little piece of software :p Not saying if any of the suggestions are good or not, but I for one am a tinkerer... you start giving me all these options to play with (choose your own sound core, choose the overclock speed, all kinds of config files being saved all over the place) I'll never actually stop to play and enjoy a game, rather, I'll just tinker with all the options to see what works better for every one of them. Silly as it may sound, the lack of a frameskip adjust is one feature I like missing from DrMD, because whenever I play GP Engine or Little John, I keep messing with the frameskip every 5 mins as I'm never quite convinced the game is running at the speed it did originally. Drives me nuts.....

Fgen is faster than DrMD that's why DrMD will appear jerkier. Fgen is faster because

1) it does not emulate the Z80 processor
2) it does not emulate line interupts

Now I could take z80 support out of DrMD and remove support for line interrupts and DrMD would fly. But you would have a super fast emulator with limited compatibilty. Now I know what I prefer :).

Can someone give a list of what games ARE better to play on Fgen?

By better, I mean, runs smoother, does have sound, is more accurate, than on DrMD.

Would it be too much trouble to include an option to take out Z80 support and line interrupts? Actually, it might be better to keep it simple like that other guy said so just ignore me.

When will the next DrMD be released?
