I need a team for a graphical exploration game.

I need:

3d Artist,
2d Artist,
Co-Writer,
Co-Designer.

I've made a game similar to zork, but the text based games don't give you the wow effect. so making a graphically rich game would make people go wow.

i'm a 2d artist (pencil, graphic, sprites, anime, dpaint, photoshop etc) with some experience in games creation (well on the amiga a few years back). i've capable of some 3d, but i'm no expert in that field yet

i also have never played many adventure games (sticking to shoot em ups, beat em ups, puzzles and platformers normally) so i'm not sure how useful i'd be...

what's the time scale on your project? what exactly is required?

i'm also a music producer (and capable of making music in mod format) if sound is required also

i can't promise anything yet, but i am definitely interested in being involved in games creation in some way/shape/form!

i am an environmental artist (2D + 3D) for a professional game developer.

3D is fun but I'd LOVE to do some 2D games. I am super picky about what I spend my time on - if ever a megaman or gradius/rtype game started popping up I'd just love to donate some time to it. Again I am damned picky (work's pretty busy) but if someone stepped fwd with some cajones and experience then who knows what'd happen?

(i am not much for programming - you see what I am getting at here!)

From talking to jlebrech, the project is cleary going to be inspired by Myst and Journeyman games (graphically rich and intelligent adventure games with a very simple interface), but that doesn't mean it can't have a unique graphical style. Call me a nostalgia freak, but 'hand-drawn' backdrops and sprites are sadly missed in this day and age, and I remember so many games of so many genres that had such a unique and distinctive graphical flair; especially from the heady days of Amiga.

If anyone saw the Delphine adventure games, or the original 'Dune' game by Cryo, they will understand what I mean. Like c64 SID music, graphics and sound of yesteryear had a 'universe' of their own which is impossible to recreate using the latest 3D and music technology, but possible to update and run with. A sense of other-wordliness can be generated very easily by using impressive but non-'realistic' audio-visuals.

Seeing as part of the point of the project is to make the GP32 stand out from the crowd, this may be the way to go. . . .

So, it needn't be Megaman or Gradius - if you have a distinct graphical style in 2D, or specific ear for great music, get involved. . . There are some talented and perceptive people on board already, and I think we can make something great.

At first me and doc will we developing a very small technology demo to show what we're thinking of.

We want atmospheric scary music!! :D

Great graphics from 8 different angles.

Doc: Maybe we could do a spinning demo (from 8 different angles using the keypad) maybe that could show people what we mean.

Hi!

Just got my GP32 last week and would love to be part of a game creation team on the GP32.

My thing is 3D graphics. I use 3ds Max (v4) with Photoshop for texture creation. My 'style' is quite cartoony but I like to delve into the darker stuff too...

Have a look at my web site for examples of my work.

I think a game of the Myst style would be excellent on the GP32. But would need to have an intelligent storyline with good puzzles. And have the user isolated within a dark, scary, environment.
Almost a cross between Myst and Silent Hill...

All the best...
Ronnie

I like your website, very nice we could use it to upload project files (if that possible, it looks very hitech).

The game will be very dark with a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel(im not talking about how brite the screen is)

Could you make us something that looks like a hi tech cryogenic prison (like in D-Man), could render them in 320x240 with 8 angles (n,nw,w,sw,s, se,e)
on the same bitmap, with that i can make a simple demo, that could motivate everyone to trust the project.

We should be able to move in 8 directions, so that would be a lot of renders if not designed right, so the indoor will be easier to implement at first, so we'll start with that.

Could you add security guards that have been dead for a long time lying around because of fallout.

Of course you've survived because you was in an icecube during the nuclear war. :D

Hi jlebrech,

Thanks for the kind words about the website. I must admit, its not all my own making. I used NukePHP which does a lot of the hard work for me. :)

I bought the webspace the site is on so i can also set up a small FTP site there if need be for file dumping etc. :)

I have a good story idea too. Involving 'terrorists', frozen people, bio warfare, a bit of conspiracy and generally dark, moody stuff... :D

My 'moving' do you mean like (in Myst) where you had the hand coming up saying you can move to here, pick this up, use this etc??...
Thats the sort of thing i'm thinking of...
I'm sure it'll all become clear when you get a demo up and running. :D

But feel free to email me... we could swap story ideas... i have the basic outline of my story in my head... just need to flesh it out more and get some puzzles into it... :)

All the best...

The game shouldnt need a cursor, itll use the keys directly, so the d-pad should be movement (like in doom but with slower movement). and the other buttons would do other things.

Why not rip some ideas from Dungeon Master (Atari ST game)? That had a similar control method.

Hi all.

I haven't got my GP32 yet.. but can I still join the fun ??
I'm a 2d artist/animator and designer. My art and design work is *very dark* and this all sounds a bit familiar!

Let me know what I can do.

I can provide some compositing and video editing (I'm working for a film- and commercial production company).

I'm also capable of providing some handdrawn 2d graphics or creating some 3d worlds :)
If you need something - give me a call :)
