You would be better off returning it for a refund. The bin won't get you your money back ;)

It should be fixed, but it will be a better idea to return it now and then buy one, when the problem has been fixed.

some of the developers are starting to create programs to work with the new LCD.
Such as Reesy's DrMD

Chui will look into the Fenix runtime this weekend and Mr. Mirko already updated his SDK to make it BLU+ compatible.

So this problem might be annoying, but all the new stuff will surely run on the GP32.

And most of the older stuff can be recompiled, not a hard thing to do, as you just have to replace one setting in the SDK and recompile it.

Only problems are old games and emus that don't have a source available, but apart from GPEngine I can't think of any game or emu that anybody would miss... except for Numo and maybe a few other games (I don't know yet which don't run), but I think if we contact the authors they'll surely will help.

And maybe even for GPEngine, some dev (read:guru) who has the time, patience and know-how may be able to decompile it to change the values to the right ones. Or no?

Mr. Spiv (the ultimate GP32 hardware guru) is just waiting for his BLU+ to arrive.
He'll try to find a universal fix, so that every piece of software also runs.

If anyone can do it, it's him :)

I had read about the screen 'bug' before I received my GP32 BLU+. As soon as mine arrived, I loaded up frodo, and was instantly disappointed, but not entirely surprised to see the top part of the display screwed. Actually, I was slightly angry, but tried to stay calm, hoping all the cool devs would find a way around this issue. And they are... :D

Besides, with GPEngine Rlyeh will eventually do fpce32.

Still...damn shame GPE cant be decompiled - for a whole load of reasons :(

Iam extreamly angery about the screen bug , it is unlikely that the GP company will fix this as its not really a fault as such. i beleve we should make a list in this forum of what things need to be recoded/recompiled then perhaps we could work as a team to hunt down the source code fix it then upload it to the download section or wherever, anyone else have any better ideas? ....

GPengine isn't effected by it, only a handfull of programs are.

www.gbax.com

Huh? It isn't?
I thought I read that somewhere on a thread...

Well, if it's not, that's great :)

BTW: Chui already released the new Fenix Runtime, so Fenix games can now also be played on the BLU+ :)
That was fast :)

where is this new Fenix Runtime located? i cant find it even with using google , allso has doom been updated yet as thats failing with the screen bug too, i allso need a C64 emulator thats fixed.....

Steve
ps. is there any fixed firmware yet that will display correctly?, i was using windups with some multifirmware but that no longer displays properly- i dislike the default firmware.

GP Engine works perfectly on the new BLU's

The problem has already been 'fixed' in that devs now know how to make their apps work with the new BLU's, as stated above, only some older programs which are not worked on any more and there is no source available, are lost to use new BLU users.

So far the only program I wanted that has the screen bug is the newest versions of Doom port... only V8 and older work with new blu's without the bar, but, alas they arent great, with no sound effects and apparently no good support for any wads other than Doom 1. V9 supports Doom 2 and Doom 64 at least and has perfect sound.

Hopefully someone fixes this one soon :(

The GP SDK (Mirko's already has been) could be modified for BLU+ support. Then all that dev's would have to do is stick the new version of the SDK in their compiler directory, and recompile. That's as easy for them as typing Copy (etc)...Make.

I think it should be done using this idea of mine:

I had an idea...BLU+ owners put a file (ie. "plus.ini") in their GPSYS folder. The
programs compatible with BLU+ and BLU detect this file.

Also their could be a tester program that tests if it's a BLU or BLU+ (displays stuff, asks if it looks like it should), and then if it is a BLU+, it puts the file in.

This would make it simple for n00bs.

Yes, this approach sounds quite reasonable to me. No detection would be needed then, everyone knows if they a FLU, BLU or BLU+.

The discussed problem is indubitably an essential matter for all owners of the new BLU+ (my BLU+ is on the way :)).

If Mr. Spiv is going to look into it, I am pretty sure he will figure out something, but in the meantime it may be wise to make a list of software not working perfect on the BLU+ along with its authors, their e-mails and status of their rebuilt. I mean, whenever anyone would get in touch with any of the coders and get their agreement to rebuilt the particular program, he would then post it on the list so that others would not bother the coder necessarily ;)

Umm... why go away if the solution is so near?
Just go to the main news page of gp32x.de or to the GP32x File Archive (www.gp32x.de) ;)
