Learning Javascript

You really want a tutorial which deals with javascript suitable for Internet Explorer 5.5 and above and Netscape 4 and above as there could be differences with the standards used with these newer more commonly used browsers.

I don't know anything about java yet but when I do want to learn I'm planning to get "Sams Teach yourself Java in 24hrs". I learnt HTML by using one of the books in this series and I've found them easy to learn the basics and a great reference book.

It may not be obvious, but Java and Javascript are totally different languages...

There is stacks of stuff on javascript kicking about on the net. You might just want to try to do something using javascript, and when you get stuck, just search for examples of your problem. Chances are, if you can't find the solution, it can't be done...

It all depends what you're planning really.

Im wanting to learn javascript and did a quick search and found this:

http://wp.netscape.com/eng/mozilla/3.0/handbook/javascript/

I was wondering if this guide is still usable to learn javascript as its outdated. Can someone with a bit of javascript knowledge let me know? :)

Thanks in advance.
Took a quick look. It talks about hiding JS from older browsers and goes into a lengthly discussion of Netscape 2 and 3's handling of script tags, confuses the reader with mentions of Java, and tells the reader NOT to use semicolons most of the time! That's just asking for it.

I haven't checked but standard deviants (cerebellum) dvds might help I have a bunch of them and one of them is for HTML so maybe they have Java script. hope it helps. :)
