Ridge Racers On Psp

Crap, I might have to order that as well as Tiger Wood now. I dont know, do we need another racer when GT is around the corner.....

Well, I have just got a load for my PS2 - and it is Christmas.

RR is more an arcade racer as opposed to the Simulation design of GT.

Anyone else having trouble getting the videos to show? I have WMP10 and all I get is the sound.

Isn't it available for DS too?
i thought that i have seen some pictures and on the DS it is looking like an old
playstation 1 title. boring graphics. <_< but the psp version seems to look much better.

EDIT: yes there is a DS version. i found it on lik-sang:

not as good as the psp version i think.

makes me think that the psp is going to wipe the floor with the DS.

i don't think so. i would prefer to buy a ds.
it's something new.
I thing it will make much more fun to play different creativ games with a touch pad then have great looking graphics. But everyone has to decide this on his own.

WOW
a whole screen for a steering wheel!
now thats inovation!!!!
Look at thoose grfx, it rivals the Playstation74!!!
OOOO uberness!!!

( PSP wins hands down here )

damn, Just think of it.... these are just the first games released for it... In a year we will see much higher quality graphics games (Think of the First PS2 games compaired to the PS2 Games now)...

I wanted nitendo to suceed, but im not so sure now...

ah well, either way there'll be some quality games along...

We already knew there was a huge discrepency between the two systems level of graphic power, don't act like this it the thing thats going to kill the DS, remember we're talking about two different demographics and two different approaches to gaming.

There's room for both.

dammit, still cant get the movies to work, stupid windows media.

Oct: Do you know how much of a dick you just made your self to be?

As I have said MANY times before, battery life is going to kill the PSP, on a game like GT4 you will more than likely get no more than 2 hours.

well, honestly, thats my opinion
I dont care, Im allowed it
If you dont agree, dont get all mad, thats ur opinion
I respect ur opinion
and yeah, I know that the DS and PSP are going for 2 differant markets, Its just I dont think Inovation is the DS's big thing
I thinks its that Nintendo has usually had ( untill X-Box ) the better multiplayer games, and this thing is built aiming at multiplayer being good, fast and easy
thats what I think the DS has going for it, the 2nd screen is just an extra goodie, not even used nicely in most games

And they said that you will get 4 hours gameplay on high-intesity games, 6 or more on pong like games ( thats where the 4-6 hours thing came from )

Hey guys, lets keep in mind neither of these systems are available to the public and we dont know the true effect of playing a game like Ridgeracer will be. While I still cant vew the videos I can hear the PSP version is obviously not streaming music off the UMD which means less disk access and a possible better battery life under regular consumer use. The DS could also suck control wise.

We still dont know either way. Try to give them both a fair shake untill people actually get them in their hands and make real coments. And stop comparing them to each other for goodness sake one's existance on the shelf isnt going to effect the others popularity I think BOTH systems are going to have to prove their worth to buyers.

The steering wheel on the DS version allows you to control with the touch screen, Edge said it was unplayable that way though :p

They also said that it was the only DS game they'd played where the touch screen wasn't implemented well.

DS still looks better to me.

Have to say makes me laugh the way people get soo excited about the way in which one conole is so much better than the other all that omg, roxxors and whatever other fighting geek speak... Neither console is going to kill the other funnily enough the world market is quite big enough to support 2 handheld console. Both are sufficiently different to co-exist side by side.

My only concern for the psp is its battery power they quote 4-6 hours as with most gadget that is the quoted max possible time is in ideal conditions, as with most electronic gadgets half this number and you get what it really is in regular day to day use. Games publishers are going to have to program there games complexity to take this account, Sony have said this themselves. I also see the movie side of it a bit of a gimmick as it uses read-only proprietary umd discs. How many people are going to bother going out to re-buy there films just to watch on a portable. However its styling, raw power, sonys marketing muscle and the playstation brand will ensure it will succeed even if the battery life is not that great.

Me im getting a DS purely cause i like Nintendo's innovative pick up and play games, and battery longevity. Like the clamshell design, being able to chuck it in my pocket or leave it out without worrying about the screen getting scratched is a big plus in my book. Although I think the psp is damn sexy looking and has brilliant gfx for a hand held the above points wins the DS over for me, although don't get me wrong i wouldn't like to have a PSP as well could easily afford one but unfortunately haven't got the time for both, for me having 2 is overkill, shame they couldn't have come out a year apart :/ .

Anyway I reckon the market will end up being split 50/50 between who like simplicity, innovation and fun factor of the DS and those who want high-end gfx and the sleek cool styling more mature styling of the sony.

Slightly off topic but doesn't the stylus/touchscreen open a whole world of pda type apps for the DS...

Apparently the thumbstick improves some games no end. I doubt this will improve the DS version of RR but you never know :p

ok the only real difference between the two versions is the textures

The PSP is graphically streets ahead of the DS. And not just textures...it can handle NURBS curves, anti-aliasing etc etc. Plus you'll get better quality audio and bigger games thanks to the UMD.

Meh, both consoles look great but this version of Ridge Racer has swayed me.

I also see the movie side of it a bit of a gimmick as it uses read-only proprietary umd discs.

People probably said the same about the PS2's DVD drive but that was a huge success. I mean, for people who can't afford a portable DVD player this is an excellent alternative, I think.

But the discs are completely different and propriety would you buy films that you could only play on a portable at dvd prices, and lets face it when they come out they won't by cheap just as dvd films were pretty expensive at first and there will not be the diverse choice you have with dvd's. Now if they had rewritable media that would have been a killer app.
