Does anyone know a readily downlodable program that can covert .wmv and/or .asf files to avi or mpg, so i can play em on the gp32?

There is an older version of virtual dub that supports asf, not sure of wmv though. The version you want is 1.3c as newer versions had support removed as asked by micro$oft. <_<

EDIT: The best thing you could do is avoid using proprietary formats such as wmv, asf and the like. Especially if you plan to share the files or want to convert them later on.

True a modded xbox will prevent you from being able to play games online but damn it opens the flood gates as far as the potential that the xbox has. A modded xbox will allow you to install a large harddrive so you can then back up entire xbox games and play them right off the harddrive as well as play any of the old classic syetems such as nes, snes, genesis, even has a media player that has support for any format that you throw at it including dvd's. The xbox is acctually a pretty crappy game system as far as games go (name 5 good exclusive xbox games) but after installing a mod chip it becomes the most amazing set top box out there. However microsoft has really been cracking down on moding the xbox but its understandable since they acctally sell the system for about $100 less than what it costs to make and hope to make their profit off of games. Because of this they have set themselves up to lose a ton of money if pirated software becomes a big deal. I just hope the same is not true for our favorite hand held system. You have to figure that game park is not making any money off of comercial games. If they were I would think that they would be focusing on them much more and would not be letting that pricey capcom licence go to waste which I personaly hope they will still take advantage of.

Crappy? Capcom Vs. SNK 2 EO: Live makes it worth the £129.99 + £35 for live kit. Alone! i wouldn't give that up at all, especially for EMU's that will run on a Dreamcast, Lowend PC or even a Handheld ;).

Why would you want your games on HDD? it just means having to buy and install another drive just for the sake of not having to slot a disk in which takes all of 2 seconds? Unless your the type that pirates commercially viable games that are still available? <_<

Dont need media players it plays CD/MP3/DVD is all i need as i dont want to play crappy quality compressed stuff on my TV (which is why i own a decent stand alone player).

Crippling your Xbox to play low grade, downloaded, pirate movies and Emu's is just insane. XBox Live is excellent.

Well the ps2 and xbox are gaming consoles.

ps2 games > xbox games

therefore ps2 wins. You can play divx and mpeg on a Ps2 as well, it´s just a bit more complicated and when they release the harddrive it will be just as good as the xbox on emulation etc. etc. And the games will always be superior.

As an owner of all 3 (sold PS2 now) the PS2 got least attention with its repetative sequels, drab gfx. Ok its got some great titles. but nothing to touch PDOrta, Metriod prime, Morrowind, CapV SNK:LIVE, Project Gotham,Moto GP2 LIVE Zelda WW, the list could go on and on. Im not getting into an argument over this but most people are wowed with with whats comming out on GC and Xbox over the past and comming months. The rest are MS-haters, "Nintendo is for kiddie's"-believers & PS2 fanboys :p

IMO the PS2 should have died in the Dreamcasts place.

After looking at some sites it seems you can Mod your box and have a switch to turn off the mod and lock installed HD's making it totaly compatible with live. Hmm what to do for a project over the summer. Write a GP32 game or get my engineering m8 to help me build a custom case for a modded Xbox with 2 or 3 HDDs then ebay it

True a modded xbox will prevent you from being able to play games online but damn it
All you need to do is switch off ur chip before u play live and ur fine
And in addition to the emulators mentioned, it also emulates playstaton(1 only of course) and nintendo64

I do Xbox mods aroudn town for money, pretty good pay

hmm, depending on how good my xbox turns out, i will start modding xboxs around town and charge money, i will flash the bios, add the pogo and the external on/off switch all myself. and maybe even upgrade the harddrive.

but i dont know, i might not even mod my xbox

How did we get so off topic in a GP32 forum?? ;)

Anyway, to further rock the boat, I currently work at a games company working on both the Xbox and the PS2. Technically, the X-box is far superior with all its nice DX8 features, but I suppose the PS2 has those nice vector units. If a game was made specifically for the XBox from scratch it would look cool, but most companies work to the lowest common denominator, with function calls that are mapped onto hardware specific stuff that can be done on both consoles, so thats why games made for the PS2 and XBox look almost identical.

Oh, and the PS2 is always the one that causes the most problems cos of the syncronisation issues of all its chips.

In fact, with what sony have said about the PS3, they had better be very careful - cos if it takes too much time to make a game for it cos of all the technical issues publishers will not want to pay for games to be made for it (it will cos more) and may all move to the XBox 2.

Just my 2 pence worth.

You cant beat the SNES/Mega Drive era.

BUT, from todays comptiters, Nintendo wins hands down. They're innovative, original, and doing their own thing, their own way. They aren't folowing a trend (casual gamers, convergence with DVD's, Internet, Shopping etc. etc.)

They do it their way, and make the best games.
