Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Please stay safe, y'all

Oh man, my neighbor keeps coughing loud enough for me to hear through the walls.

Fortunately, walls are COVID-proof, even if they aren't soundproof. I mean, it's flu season too, so who knows what's going on over there? Maybe he just vapes.

Well I think I hear some neighbor cough some days every year. It's not that they have somethign chronical, it's just that our acustic isolation is crap.
And people cough. Specially smokers, or those who used to be smokers.

1 in 5 covid patients end up with mental issues:

That article seems to be copied here, without the cookie guard: https://www.wamc.org/post/after-covid-diagnosis-nearly-1-5-are-diagnosed-mental-disorder

Meh, 1 in 5 people have mental disorders to begin with.

I'm more concerned about the finding in there that people with mental illnesses are 65% more likely to get COVID-19. It's probably just because they're more likely to live in group settings with staff that rotate in and out, but it doesn't really say.

Man, in my state, hospitalizations jumped from like 900 to 1200 when we went to Phase 3 of reopening, but they were hanging steady at that 1200 mark for weeks.

Just two days ago, they jumped to over 1400. No word on what caused that. It might be time to go back a phase.

Edit: Wait, I've discovered the reason. NC website says CDC changed its hospitalization reporting guidelines. Before, the max a patient could be reported for was 21 days. Now they're required to be reported for entire length of stay.

Guess this definitely confirms the existence of "long COVID".

Edit 2: Well, to further clarify, patients before were only reported when isolated, which was usually a max of 21 days. Now both isolated and non-isolated patients are reported.

Sorry @pyrat it isn't normal for someone to cough this much.

At this point though, I think it's more likely to be lung cancer than COVID-19. Guy is coughing way too much even for COVID-19.

In a way, you're both right. What Pyrat is missing is that smokers who cough excessively have given themselves a disease called COPD. And what you're missing is that there are explanations other than Covid-19 and lung cancer, but hopefully you're joking there.

Covid-23...Are the producers tone deaf?

I like how they picture an "apocalyptic world" where everyone is doing happily cyclette and other stuff to have fun in their heated houses.
It could be a cool apocalypse to live in... a lot better than most of the apocalypses I have seen (from other sources, or imagined) !!

Yes, like I predicted on Friday. But it's good they're doing proper research of this, it's better than the assumptions of a keyboard warrior.

And as for than Nvidia video, the myth of the 'unused cycles' continues. That hasn't been true for over 10 years now. Really what they're doing is stealing our electricity and our fan rotations. But at least it's in a good cause, so I guess I shouldn't really complain.

I don't say people should not be allowed to wear them.
They should not be forced to do so.
And during winter season they serve a purpose of keeping your face warm.

The meaning of these masks aren’t to protect the wearer, but the other Peaple around you,
Everything that at least slows the whole partikles you trow out every time you speak is good, as it’s means they fell on the ground bevor they can reach others..

You need a lot more to be protected: distance, lots of Desinfektion, and you have to think about your everyday behavior:
Lots of us are touching our nose and mouth every few minutes; so if there is a virus, it will get smeared every where..

I try to keep distance, and I have the buffs as a Facemask Alternative because it’s quite useful and be prepared..
Luckily only a few of our customers are mask refusers,
I
Some of the mask refusers got a paperwork from there Doktor... and this is our issue:
Shure there are Peaple that can’t wear a mask because they have issues whit the lungs or something, but this don’t let you be immune, it’s lets you be a danger for other Peaple..
But lots of the Peaple whit the „Attest“ are from these mask refusers groups who are going to the demos

Send from something, i guess ^^

For what my ignorant opinion is worth (I know nothing of medicine or psychology):

- I like wearing mask and I like other people to wear it too. Now I can imagine everyone is smiling under their mask, before it was obvious most of them were in a bad mood.
With COVID-19 there is even more ground to be in a bad mood, so I don't need to see those faces. I can treat people with respect and consideration without seeing their faces.
They're very obviously humans still. Humans with a mask are humans. Doh.

- There are restrictions on movement, on economic activities, on gatherings, on many important things. And we really are worrying about something as trivial as what to wear ?
We always had restrictions on accepted clothing. Some of them were very discriminatory and arbitrary. This one is the first one which has some reason, because I understand easily that even a bad mask or scarf stops air from
getting too far and onto others when you breath. And is the same restriction for everyone.

- I've never been to Japan, but I hear it was very common to see people wearing masks there (before COVID-19). It's not something so inhuman, it's just something that we Westerners weren't used to.

- There are lots of deaths and people with serious symptoms. When I see people without mask, I worry that we are unable or worse, don't care, in getting together and doing what we can to fight a common problem.
Unmasked people make a first impression of dangerous, not so much because of infection, but because irresponsible behavior. If they don't care to wear a mask they can also not care to stop in a red light or
refraining from driving when drunk, or paying their taxes. In second impression I always consider that I don't know the person or the reason he's not wearing a mask, and maybe he has some specific condition or situation, and not just
egotism, and it's not very much of my business, specially if I don't have to stay close to them or in closed spaces, so I'm not going to police them.

- I don't understand how can a study show negative psychological impact of having to wear mask in a pandemic context. How do they make sure the depression, fear or whatever come from having to wear a mask and
not really from the global situation that caused the obligation to be enacted? Everybody who knows that people have to wear masks knows why. And the why is much more depressive than the obligation itself.

- I don't like obligations in general. I like those slogans like "forbidding is forbidden" and so on. But I also understand if we're going to live together in a society not everything goes. I suffered a lot of olbigations even before COVID-19.
And I find the obligation to wear a mask is very little limiting. So I don't really buy it has so terrible impacts.

Well if you treat this whole Corona thing like a religion, it’s a lot easier:
Whe celebrate this religion by wearing a mask, and keep distance and wash our hands quite often ^^

Oh and the German Article Ascarus was linking sounds to me that the social distancing causes a lot of the issues, ..

My only issues whit my Mask are that I can’t put Propolis Lip Protection Stick on (I’m using these because my lips are too try ) because everything from this stuff are then in the masks..
and a lots of time there are my Hear in the mask ^^ which is also unpleasant..

But I ditnt found any mental or physically Disease yet..

In Japan, you wear a mask whenever you are sick out of respect for others. It's part of their culture I believe.

From what I've read the effect of masks is - at least - still debated. There are some serious meta studies that are in favor. So in doubt I can see why we'd prefer to have them mandatory or at least strongly recommended.
I find it more troubling that some people are forced (because they'd be homeless and starving if they don't) to go to work for non-essential work in a middle of a pandemic, than to have people forced to wear masks that may not be useful.
