Gps

So whats the difference between this kit, and a standalone gps receiver wired up to plug into the ext port?

There's not much difference in price - a standalone gps receiver is normally around the £80 mark, and this is the same and has a nice RTC as well for a bonus, but I'm just thinking of people who don't want to open there GP32's.

Well, I suppose you could use a chatboard (as long as it were set to UART0) at the same time with this solution, whereas you'd have trouble with ports with an external one.

Other than that...

Both UART's come out of the bottom connector I believe, so it would just be a matter of someone making a splitter cable, although that's easier said than done :)

However, I can only see one practical use for the GPS at the moment. We simply have not got the storage or data required for a full route planner, but we could use it for a cheap speed trap detection. For the £180 cost however, I think I'd prefer a smaller dedicated device.

Anyone else found any uses?

It will be able to tell you the time and date wont it?? But hey, My Watch can do that so I dont realy need that function.

Speedcamera detector sounds cool, but I would rather put hte extra towards a proper one so I know it will work 100% :D

I dont think there will be that much use for it (But maybe Im wrong)..

If you could put it in the car with good route planning software, I think it would go down a storm. Myself I'm always getting lost, and having some sort of device telling me where to go (No pun intended) would be kewl....

Oddley enough, I got into a taxi the other day, and was putting my GP32 into my handbag when the driver said "You know you can get a GPS thing for those now". I didn't have a clue what he was on about until he told me.

I wonder if it will be able to tell me when I'm close to a shop that has a half price sale on LMAO.

Clare.
