Neogeo Emulator

Is it possible to have a neo-geo emulator on the gp32.
Simple answer, No

Long Answer, The Neo Geo is too powerful and the roms are too big

(Theoretically, one could use dynamic loading to overcome the RAM limitation, but whereas GBA roms are ~8-16 MB, NeoGeo roms are up to 10 times as large, so not even dynamic loading will solve this problem. Also, the Neo Geo is darn powerful for a 16bit system. If we can't get perfect SNES emulation, there is no hope of Neo Geo emulation.)

no, it apparently just has a 16bit processor and an 8bit processor...least thats what I heard... :)

edit : that actually probably means if anything there is even LESS chance of emulating it...2 processors.....

They make full-size desktop PCs nowadays that still cannot emulate Neo-Geo games at full framerate under MAME.

I think we're rather unlikely to have anyone bother with this, and if they do, it will be painfully slow.

Neo-Geo is 24 bit not 16 :D
I don't think it's even possible to have a 24-bit processor. 8,16,32,64,128, etc. but not 24

yeah but Rlyeh haven't said in an interview that he was thinking it's possible with memory upgrade??? but maybe I'm wrong...
at less I really wish that it's possible even for the first "old" NG games which are already fantastic :)

I'm still waiting to get a Metal Slug on the way
/me 'yeahhhh sounds so great ;)

oh and I confirm what Rigor Mortis said about the 24 bits... it's impossible lol ;op

to be exact a Neo Geo got a 68000 Motorola cpu inside ;p yeah the same than the Amiga or Atari or Genesis one :) but it's running @12 Mhz (so faster than all those machines which were @7Mhz max)
It also got a Z80 co-pro @4mhz and this CPU is also extremly famous & well known (included in other machines... hummm Master System for exemple @3.6Mhz if my memory is right... )
so I don't see anything impossible for the GP32 here :p

BUT the main point is that all games of NG would be over the 8Mb memory of our GP32 ... so extended memory NECESSARY ;p 32 would be nice, but 64 would be perfect :) I think seriously that if somebody success to release a NG emu which work only with 32 Mb then that mod will have an incredible success ^^

MAME is crap thats why well with neo geo emulation. Play it with neoragex and you only need a p1 166mhz for full speed. Callus is also a great emu.

I await the day a Neo Geo emualtor for the Gp32 comes out. But for now, lets be happy with Metal Slug 1st and 2nd mission on the NGPC emu ;)
Are they working fine & full speed actually???
I haven't try the NGP emu since long time ago coz it was too slow...
if it's playable I really want to give it a try ;p

Actually It would be nearly impossible to do. The Z80 is a big problem right now for just the Genesis emus, notice how Z80 is NOT emulated in any of the Genesis emus? Tieing them together seems to be a tall order. It seems to be quite a problem for a 7 Mhz genesis so the Neo which is even faster is very unlikely.

I wish it was full speed. Hasn't been updated for almost a year....

yes that's true... but maybe we can see it working one day without sound ?? :)

First of all, emus without sound suck balls.

Second, the Z80 in the Neo is not used for sound it is used for graphics. A neo emu without graphics would be a bit hard to play.
