I would try testing your memory. Use memtest86.

I had that once, it turned out I had some crazy spyware tying up by bandwidth/cpu to such a mad extent that things froze for a second when I ran them etc.

if you haven't already, try doing a *thorough* spyware search

I had this a while ago, I reformated, now it doesn't freeze, the screen just goes off and won't come back on every now and again.

Just happened again; while I was planting the bomb in CS

Ill try both of those. Aint checked for spy/adware in a while.

Dammit dont have linux/ floppy drive :(

Scandisk (Thorough) then Defrag

Checked CPU temp and its only at 54 degrees.

Did you check it at the BIOS or through a probe program? Since at the BIOS your CPU may be hotter or cooler depending on the type of CPU, Motherboard, and cooling system.

And if you are using Windows XP, remember it has a LOT of reporting tools - you can easily see what programs are using up the most of the CPU's time, and even how much network bandwidth you are using.

If you don't have a floppy drive there is a CD image for memtest86. You just burn the ISO to CD and boot off of it.

I used the BIOS (after resetting)

Also seems to be only happening when playing CS or watching something in Winamp... so it seems to happen when using alot of memory.

Aha! RAM stick might be bad, or even the slot itself. This HAS happened to me before, even on an ASUS motherboard. Rotate your RAM and see if it still happens.

Edit: Well actually, both Winamp and CS page fault like crazy, so it could be a problem with too little HDD space, or a seriously screwed HDD.

This sounds more likely; I have less than a gig free.\

Happened again but got error:

(something like; i cant remember exactly, was a bsod thing but reset after after a few secs)
driver irql less than normal

I've had video freezing and no audio (well sometimes audio) on a few games... Far Cry, a couple times that actually put me of playing it, and lately once on Vice City. It's rare but I suspect that's it the graphics card because the audio sometimes goes on in the background. It seems to be unrelated to the game being played, though. No idea how to fix it - so my post is useless to you, sorry.

I bought a new mobo, CPU and RAM the other week. Had random freezes for a week or so, then swapped the stick of ram (512Mb) into another slot, and wahay! No More freezing! It can be a problem on the memory bus somewhere that only shows up on a stick of ram in a particular slot. Give it a try and see what happens.

90% of the random freezes I encountered in my life was faulty memory.
Try exchange it or use the above mentioned program (memtest86).

If you don't have a floppy, create a boot CD.

The error im getting is:
driver irql not less or equal
That's almost always a hardware problem.

Could be caused by faulty drivers though.

Did you install anything new recently?
