BROKEN GP32!?

You can get encoded Wind-ups from #gp32 IRC channel (please read faq.gp32emu.com for IRC stuff first). About your Free Launcher proglem.. Have you tried the "Windows way" of fixing things i.e. reformatting the SMC and reinstalling the Free Launcher? Your binary might just be corrupted. Other alternatives are that your PDUID has changed, which is theoretically possible but very very unlikely.

I did mess around with darkfader's GPS2, would that have broken things? And as far as the "windows way", yes. But i dident format with pc-link because i cant, and thats my problem :( , Im checking out that IRC thing now... But I've never used IRC so...crap...

EDIT: would i get an encoded Wind-ups the same way as the free launcher?(sorry for the stupid question but i dont know :( )

I did the whole IRC thing (only with free launcher, not wind-ups because i dont know how to get it encrypted) and I get the same error :( I supose i should just get my GP32 replaced hua?

Well, for thoes of you who care my epic tale of not haveing any fun is over. I've figured out that the smc slot is defective, darkfaders pclink had the same errors as gameparks. I'll just get it replaced. I wish GamePark could afford a QC departmant :( thoe it probably just got dropped or something... anyway... im going to sleep, its 5 am.

I had this Problem too so here is the solution:
1. Plug the USB cable
2. Turn the GP32 on, set it to pc-link mode
3. Format the SMC card and it will tell you error!
4. Shit on the error message.
5. Format again repeat step 1-3 until you can expand the main folder by clicking on the little plus (at the folder-tree on the right side of the pc-link Software)
6. Install Freeloader software try if it works else turn off and repeat step 2-6.
7. copy bios dumper to gpmm directory and close the pc-link software, now start the bios dumper.
8. go to pc-link mode again, copy fw.bin to your harddisk.
9. copy bios flasher to gpmm, copy multifirmware to root directory, run bios flasher
10. pray that it works!
11. connect only with pc-link-bios by Darkfader from now on.
12. cry out hossiannah and send me thank you.
Hope this can help You.
P.S. Read the readme.txt of every program I described to use, for detailed instructions hot to use them.
Dont be disappointed, it took me one week to master this bit**, cu**, a*shol*, sh** problem, your SMC is not broken dont believe them.

We've got some smartasses here, it seems.

At least I never said that his SMC is broken. I just said that there's something that could happen to the formatting of the SMC that irritates the GP. And, BTW, I did use Darkfader's PC-link that's included with the MultiFW.

And it's also not the SMC slot in the GP that's broken, just telling from the symptoms. If you used PC-link you'd see the whole procedure that the Windows SW tries to go through, and that it stumbles over "get smc size". So you get stuck in a classic deadlock. Can't "get smc size" because something on the SMC got corrupted, can't format because you need to get across "get smc size" to do that.

What worked for me was using a SW that just sent the format command to the GP without the checking first. Maybe the brute-force method worked for you since the Windows SW thought it already made the "smc size" test and simply sent a format without checking.

BTW, using PacRom to format might work as well, but I couldn't test since I had "remember last item" selected, and so PacRom wouldn't even start because it died when trying to find this last item.

what software did you use to "brute force" format you smc? I hope it wasent maclink, im stuck on pcs(i CANT use a mac, there arnt any in my town.) The same error (more or less) comes up when i use darkfaders pclink too.

EDIT: i cannot get pckrom to run!

What???? Someone else told me that if it didn't find a file it would just start like the goto last item wasn't slected, not get very mad at you??

It does, but apparently it crashes with the first access to the SMC, so it dies while trying, not having a chance to go on and ignoring the missing file.
