I can not see Microsoft throwing good money after bad

Nintendo seem to have lost the impetus (although some gaes are superb)

Playstation (whatever number) just seems to release the weakest (technically) system but they have the software support and continues to strengthen as a result.

The next console could be the make or break.

If Microsoft, Nintendo or someone new, gets something out before Sony, they may just make it, but Sony releases early, gets software support normally with weaker consoles and rules the roust.

Someone has to take the plunge to beat sony, I can't see that happening to be honest.

I am not a sony lover or hater, just someone with an opinion.

And I love my GP32 anyway so whatever!!

Personally I'm holding out for the next-next generation system. Hell.. they're supposed to be here in 2-3 years. Why? $$$$$$$... nothing now, hopefully a decent job by then. :D

I don't know what the deal is with this Phantom Console... it's very strange...

I think the PlayStation brand name and all their recognisable software titles will be with us for a long time. After all it's the general public that decides which console wins. Not the 'hardcore' gamers.

Now the Xbox has got a foothold, I reckon it's gonna slowly encroach on the PS2/3's territory. I also think MS has the oomph behind it to push it out in front (eventually! may take a few years...)

Hey the infinium website has changed, its much better now. Maybe it does exist!!! :D

WTF????nintendo AND microsoft are getting support from ati??? i smell a couple of bribes coming atis way... damn yous bill gates!!!

You know, I think that it's past time that some innovation got pushed into the home console market...
As it stands now, I feel no great urge to replace my Dreamcast with any of these new generation systems, because I feel that they're very close to reaching the limit of what a gaming machine can do.

I mean, yes, yes, they're beefing them up with more powerfull graphics chips, but beyond that, they're running out of ideas; both MS and Sony are already trying to make their game consoles take other functions outside of games to encourage people to buy them, like inclusing CD and DVD players and such.

In my opinion, they should be expanding the boundaries of what it means to be playing a game.

When I see consoles come with VR headsets that simulate a world not just on a small screen in a room in front of you, but with images in front of both eyes to simulate 3D, surround sound around your ears; something that makes a game feel like a simulation in "the Matrix", then I'll think about buying a new home console.

Speaking of which, tv shows and movies would also be far more interesting if shown this way, don't you agree?

Perhaps it's time for a revolution... :)

I think if microsoft don't make serious progress with the next machine, the shareholders will make them quit, similarly if the big N don't hit the spot with GC2 they might well become only a software/handheld developer. Sony's machines may not be the most technically able, but they do have the lion's share of developers, and very good marketing. I had hoped that Nintendo and Sega could combine forces and produce a console between the pair of them, If you knew Nintendo and Sega games were only available on one platform, i'd certainly buy it.

I'd love it if Sega stepped back into the market. I'd love to have a nice black brick of a console with some ingenious yet irrelevant add-ons sitting under my TV.

Hopefully the market will reverse and soon the mainstream will realise that 2D was all the human race was meant to discover. I can't wait for the true sequel to Sonic and Knuckles.

My prediction of the PS3's hardware specs.

Dual Hitachi RISC processors running at 19mhz each with 8mb of video ram and a Yamaha 8bit sound chip. Games wil come on cartridges the size of DVD cases and the system will be upgradable with a CD addon the size of a radiator.

That would be beautiful!

"The Phantom was announced just a few days ago, it's real! 3 GHz and plays PC-games, looks cool but is it really a console - not a mini-PC!? :"

That's what I was thinking. And games are download only! what are they thinking- not everyone has broadband, and who wants to wait hours for a DVD quality game
to download. On the way home from work I can pop into EB and buy a game, play it as soon as I get in, not wait for it too download just before I go to bed.
