Wifi problems

I was one of the unlucky few to receive a pandora with one of the faulty wifi modules, and after a bit of communication with the team I was sent a replacement pandora. I start off with this comment as I have never seen 'normal' wifi use.

Although the connection isn't the fastest, I'm able to browse the net pretty well (I'm composing this post on the pandora now) but I had problems with using the pndstore. Basically it would run through it's checks and start updating, and then hang. I quickly realised that the problem was my connection had dropped out. So I toggled wifi off and on and restarted pndstore, but the same problem occurred. To test that it indeed was my connection and not a pndstore problem (haven't seen anybody really complaining about this app) I created a few data files on my pc for use in testing. I tried to scp a 10meg file from my home pc to the pandora but the connection would always drop out before the transfer completed. This happens every time I attempt to scp, and the only way to get my connection back is to toggle wifi off and on again.

I've attached a dmesg output for anyone that would like a look and who could help me out here as I'm assuming not too many people have this problem?

You forgot the attachment. Does the connection wifi connection actually drop? It's just that I have the same problem with PNDStore (and opkg and browser), I'm still connected (can fire up a new browser), but the transfer has stopped for that connection.

Strange, pretty sure I selected the file with Midori.

Thanks for the info Tam, tried that and when I first opened the browser, my scp connection restarted, but then died again. After that once the connection dies it doesn't come back without toggling wifi.

Alerino, tried all of those options but still the same results. I don't know how much information dmesg gives, but I've attached a second output I took directly after trying to scp the same 10meg file using Notaz's driver. Don't know whether there will be anything different but you never know.

Tried straight after the driver installation, then rebooted and tried again with no joy. Likewise with changes to dhcp and static configurations.

It seems to me (in my limited wisdom) that the wifi module is unloading itself whilst in the middle of a data transfer, as if it's losing the keepalives from the AP. Reminds me of problems with p2p transfers when upload is set too high and the connection floods and drops out until it's reset, but surely that's not the problem here is it? Maybe something to do with the rate control settings?

Alerino, you said that with your DI-524 your connection is stable most of the time. Did you have the same sort of problems as I have, or does it just drop out whenever?

Edit: How do you do spoiler tags?

I'm not running any pnds, the only application open is a terminal window. When I do try to browse the net, I use the latest midori and haven't had any problems with that, except of course if I try to download anything > 5MB or so. Then the connection drops and the 'authentication loop' continues until wifi is toggled off and on.

Cheers Alerino :D

As stated earlier in the post, tried all 'fixes' within this post to no avail.
