what is this adaptor/connection?

The Composite regular Yellow/Red/White cable most likely uses a cable like this:

The component video most likely uses something like this:

There are no difference from the Composite/Component cables other than one has Yellow/Red/White and the other is Red/Green/Blue and you just need to figure out what each one is if you use the wrong colored one.

There maybe ones that have female ends to them so you can hitch up regular game console connectors to them.. or just get a bunch of these...

cheers, I'll get me an adaptor off eBay for this

@TrashyMG,

My partners son has a Wii with a Component cable for better picture

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Unknowm-6900214001630-WII-COMPONENT-CABLE/dp/B000NUR582/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=24DSLLHOPL22L&coliid=IXM2XIT9HHIQA

but his recent TV's all lack the red/green/blue connections and he has felt unable to use it.

Are you saying that the red/yellow/white of Composite ports will accept these cables once you figure out, the correct lead in which alternative port colour and that in theory, the remaining red/yellow RCA audio parts of the Wii Component cable, can then be placed in a female RCA adapter to a male headphone jack into the TV and this will work?

i.e   http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-stereo-Phono-Sockets-length/dp/B000Q8KSS0/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=24DSLLHOPL22L&coliid=I3HXBO8U7D0BW9

In addition the same thing via a Component SCART block with red/green/blue for picture and the yellow port accepting the red/white leads by an RCA female to male adapter?

i.e http://www.amazon.co.uk/InLine%C2%AE-Scart-Adapter-plug-Composite/dp/B001JKLIRE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357647756&sr=8-1

That would be handy if so and would get him back up and running quickly on his new TV's.

Well if the TV itself can't handle Component input it wouldn't work.. I was just saying the cables themselves are electrically the same.. Ex: Y/R/W is wired the same as the R/G/B component cables, just need to figure out what the equivalent colors are.

seems new tellies dont offer these old connections often now...
I got adapters now for both RCA and component, so my Wii and old Xbox are sorted.
My telly doesn't have Scart either, going to pick up a Scart to HDMI adapter.

This looks handy eh, all into HDMI which most new tellies have a few of now
