Hi !

I heared something about newer versions of GCC - how can i update it ?

My OS is Windows ME.

How can i find out what version i have ?

Greetings

Tobias

If you using Windows and a packaged Devkit then you most lightly have...

DevKitAdv = GCC 3.0.2 (Very old, lots of big bugs in ARM code output)
MiniGP32 = GCC 3.2.2 (Old'ish, but has some big fixes over 3.0.2)

From memory 'gcc --version' will give you the exact version.

I have started writing a guide for building a GCC 3.3.2 (and 3.4) tool chain for Windows from scratch using CygWin and the GCC source tarball's.
As soon as I finish that (end of the week I guess, fairly busy right now) i'll post it up on my site. I am also planing to repackage the GamePark SDK to go with the tool chain.

I'd like to have A precompiled pack of GCC 3.4
for gp32

People say it's faster and miore optimized than even ADS.

Well... GreenHill's compilator is way better they says , too

I've not tried 3.4, but I've compared the assembler output of GCC 3.3 on standard optimisation (-O, not -O3) and it produces smaller code than the IAR ARM Embedded Workbench 3.40A which I use at work (on "High optimisation"), so if 3.4 is even better, than it certainly gets my vote :)

Erm, you've truncated the name. The full name is "IAR ARM Embedded Workbench 3.40A", which is a expensive ARM C/C++ Compiler suite. Goto www.iar.com for more info.

IAR ARM Embedded Workbench is a VERY expensive ARM development kit. I have used it at work along with ADS. Nothing Amiga was ever involved in its birth.

Regarding 3.4, I think as far as totally free ARM compilers go ;) it’s very good I use GCC 3.4 and 3.3.2 in preference to ADS even though I have free access to ADS (and support for it) via work.

EDIT: Squidge got there 1st :).

I think the only thing missing in GCC in a few more warnings/error messages - it seems to allow some things that cause a complete GP32 crash that the more expensive compilers don't allow.

Saying that though, companies such as IAR need at least some unique features to get people to buy there compilers, even if they generate less optimised code than the free compilers :) :D

Hi

I would like to know if there were some news on the guide by DjWillis ? I'm very interested in it ...

Thanks in advance !
