GPH has announced the other approved names by them that were most probably already taken:

C-MAX
Cyborg
Digi-I(µрБцѕЖАМ)
Digimax(µрБцёЖЅє)
'Digix'
DPX20
Fanwiz
Gamedia
GameDrive
GameFlex
GAMIGO
GMAX
Gondo / Godo
GP Genix
GP Mediamax
GP MULTIGEN
GP Nemesis
GP NEOX
GP Xeno
IriX
necron
X Play
X-Duo

Jesus. After seeing the steaming pile of crap that is this list, am I the only one that thinks GPH dodged a bullet with the gp2x name, even if it is unoriginal?

Yep. Aside from perhaps "Gamedrive" the rest are pretty bad IMO. And no, "Gamedrive" wasn't my idea. ;) I didn't even enter the contest.

So GP2X is for the best.

May as well throw the whole thing out there...
Dear everyone.

i fully understand why you guys are so upset.
Me and other co-workers also said chaging the name from gpx2 to gp2x is rediculous. Absolutely yes...

The reaction was just like " what? are you kidding?(to GPH president) no!!!! we can't use that name!!"
And i was very worried about the reactions and disappointment that will come from our customers.

"what would they think of us and this ridiculous result? "
It is not that we are playing with you. We also wanted to make better name. but whenever we choose the cool name it has already been registered in korea.

Those names that i chose were

C-MAX
Cyborg
Digi-I(디지아이)
Digimax(디지맥스)
'Digix'
DPX20
Fanwiz
Gamedia
GameDrive
GameFlex
GAMIGO
GMAX
Gondo / Godo
GP Genix
GP Mediamax
GP MULTIGEN
GP Nemesis
GP NEOX
GP Xeno
IriX
necron
X Play
X-Duo

i also think that gp2x is not that good name i lik the name irix but we coudnt use that .....
Moreover the president kept changing the plan of company name and so on.
What i wanted to say is we tried our best to choose a good name but it didnt work.

Sorry again for those who are disappointed about naming contest.

Best regards,
Gamepark Holdings

Hello

We appreciate your concern for our product.

We do not intend to make excuses, but we'd like to explain the true facts because resentment due to misunderstanding is not good for all of us.
The reason we hold the naming contest is that the trademark "GPX" was already registered by a Japanese company for a printer.
Patent attorney warned us GPX2 shall be surely rejected by Registration Authorities. It can be regarded GPX's successor.
In short of good ideas, we hold the contest and reviewed the names.Despite eager participation of community members, some were unregisterable and we could not find satisfactory name.
Many GP32 community members and customers advised us to adhere to "GP".
Our attorney advised us GP2X is registerable as it cannot be misunderstood as a GPX's successor.

We are on final stage of developing GPX2 and will release Software development guide next week.
We will start mass production in October and be ready to ship GPX2 in early November.
I hope this explanation clear up the lingering doubts.
Thank you very much for your concern and we will make our best efforts to meet GP32 community member's expectation and support.

Best regards,
Gamepark Holdings

Sounds like a fair enough explanation to me.

Well, I'm mollified :)

2x isn't stunning but its satisfactorily mediocre, and they do have good reason for it. At least they're being honest about what they think about their own name too lol.

Wha- Hey, wait.... the crappy name I threw out there at first impulse got on the final list, bu the well-thought-out one that everyone I asked liked better didn't?

Ah, well. Crazy GPH.

Btw, the name of mine that ended up on that list is the very last one, X-Duo.

Fanwiz?

Is that like the piss of a fanboi or something? Oh my..

:p you tried too hard on that one Dave.

Anyway I'm glad they had the guts to come out and say "sorry this turned out so bad" They actually understand how well being upfront with people can effect their image. I suppose though that this could have been easier for them if they decided to loose the GP and try something entirely new but it would have probably made their loose connection to the GP32 harder to capitalize on with the XGP coming out and having the actual Game park name to back up their claim to the ancestry.

well the thing is it doesn't matter what name was picked everybody would still be bitching about the name and yes my name is unoriginal and unimaginative that's why i only made one post for the names (cause i couldn't think of anything), and that's why i was surprised at the fact that i won. but i do like it better than the ones that made the final list. Digix is kinda cool although it doesn't fit for the name of the handheld

I confess, it was me who chose GP2x after seeing that list, however just so you know we first wanted Neo-GP or GP-Neo but both were taken.

Having GP2x keeps people on track anyway, rather than having a radical and confusing rename.

AHA!

Actually I no longer think its that bad.
It's almost like coinciding with gp32x.de...
Since this is the Gamepark 2.

Neo-GP would've been very cool. Oh well.
