Is the newest version of SNES9xgb playable? I've heard comflicting opinions on this, so i was hoping for a few more to make an educated decision.
This is a valid question, but you are likely to receive a million different opinions on "playability", as preferences vary extremely. Basically, with the current version of SNES9xgp you need to make a sacrifice in one or more of the following areas to enjoy a game; speed, or perhaps fluidity, as most games will run choppily at a frameskip of less than one or two; graphics, or resolution; sound, where sampling rate matters, but disabling sound altogether makes the most difference.
The real answer depends on which games you wish to play. Worms plays great, and Sensible Soccer plays well enough, but don't even bother with SSF2, Mario Kart, or Star Fox. Likewise, it's painful to play games which require you to disable sound to achieve decent framerates (I'll make an exception for Kirby Superstar, but this is simply an investment in sanity). I've uninstalled the emulator and I am waiting for a better release, as you can only experience the excitement of using incomplete emulators so many times. (I still recall downloading every new release of SNES96, which later evolved into 9x, and praying for Sidewinder support with each download.) My best advice is to give 9xgp a shot -- it's a quick setup -- and come to your own conclusions. Then hope for the best with this emulator which is already advancing so rapidly.
As to your first question, I'll leave the true answers to someone experienced like a programmer or technician, but a layman's guess is that the GP32 will do just very well with SNES emulation in time. The system's specs of a GP32 look way more impressive than that of an SNES, and it's important to keep in mind that Super Nintendo emulators that have been in development a long time, such as SNES9x and Zsnes, run beautifully on slower processors like low-end Pentiums.
