Hi !

Does someone know an alternative for MarioKart on the GP2X ?
I have MarioKart for SNES-Emu (it freezes after a few seconds) and for GBA-Emu (too slow).

Was there another Fun-Racer on other Systems (Sega Genesis ?)
who had similar gameplay (but not topdown) ?
So I could play it on my GP2X ?

Thx in advance.

Mariokart ran on my GP2x. I just left it for ages and it eventually gets to the menu. It still doesn’t run right though. It does the typical error on emulators where you cant pick up the ? blocks and if you leave the track you get picked up and put back on it.

Yes, I have the same problems !
I use this workaround:
When he gets to the MainMenu I created a SaveState.
So when I load the rom i execute the savestate and don´t have to wait 1 Minute.

But the main problem remains !

Btw. I tested the game Street Racer for Sega Genesis. It runs fine and is similar to
Mario but not as good.

Does anyone know other alternatives ?

Street Racer is just as fun as Mario Kart, has a larger play screen, and looks better and smoother. Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge 2 for the Genesis is also good if you want some real racing action :)

I played Mario Kart on SquidgeSnes yesterday.
With all the presets set to normal and sound it was slooow.
But it was really playable with : No sounds, 266Mhz Overclocking and a frameskip set to 2.
No bugs.
Give it another try ;)
The first image (Nintendo prez) still on screen for a very long time, but ingame is playable for me.

There is also another game that should be portable to fenix since it was written in the predecessor language of fenix called DIV... I believe i've got it flying around somewhere together with my DIV gamestudio CD... it was an example game delivered with the dev-kit, in spanish... I will try and port it, I think it's gpl...

This would be a nice suggestion for a new fenix game... mode7 graphics done with a tile-engine maybe... and then a bunch of power-ups, maps, funny characters... boom! There you go, "grand prix 2x" lol
Maybe somebody should have a look at nazcarunners and use the source...

nazcarunners is fun...maybe could have used a little more fine tuning, but still it's a nice accomplishment and i'm glad it was rereleased as it's quite fun to play.

also i like the road rash games for sega, it's great fun swinging nunchucks at someone while flying off a jump on those little bikes. also the lotus games (various games, various platforms) are very good. i guess there's a difference between kart games and regular racing games...but if you like one it's not hard to have fun with the other.

anyone else have sega rally championship for sega saturn? "game over, yeeaah"

well i think the biggest difference between a mario kart type game and a lotus/roadrash like game is that in mario kart you can go round the track and actually rotate the map in mode7 which made things such as a battle mode possible. I believe that lotus and roadrash are not true mode7 games am I right? well at least they cannot rotate their maps eventhough roadrash can do hills and such, too...

Try Sonic Drift - a blatant rip off Mario Kart, but worth playing all the same. Since I have just a GP32, I play this quite a bit on any of the Gamegear emulators.

sonic drift sucked. i have the original game on my gamegear and I have to say that it doesn`t remotely reach the supreme überness of mariokart!

1. Again, the game is NOT real mode7 as it is not rotatable
2. There is no way to own other players with cool weapons
3. The tracks sucked the monkey's if you ask me...
