Im new to this forum, im going to buy a gp2x very soon. however with it being a linux based machine i wondered if it would just run linux programs, i have been told it wont just run them straight off and would need changing or recompiling or something.

There is already a port of quake on the gp2x but has anyone seen quakeworld (the multiplayer specific version of quake) or more importantly the EQuake installation which includes all the necesary files to play quakeworld? there is a linux install here: http://www.quakeworld.us/?a=downloads&d=equake/eQuake/linux/ would it be possible to get this running on the gp2x?
the main reason id like to see this is for watching demo replays etc.

sorry if this is in the wrong section. id just like some info on could go about getting this to work on a gp2x. thanks in advance

The GP2X does not currently have support for multi-player, so it can't be ported... yet. I don't have a gp2x yet, but I've heard others complaining about the speed in Quake. If it has trouble the way it is, imagine how much slower it'd get with networking code thrown about in the middle.

It CAN be ported, and we DO have multiplayer, but what's the point of porting it until we have working NETWORKED Multiplayer support. You can currently do Multiplayer on 1 GP2X, but it's only good for games that need 3 buttons plus a directional pad at max.

the point is, MVD (multi view demos)! Hardcore Quakeworld gamers wouldnt even consider playing quake on a handheld.. And ezQuake is the client in use by the Quake community with the features we want. And we're not about the bling bling, eyecandy stuff or gameplay so forget about gp2x not having multiplayer.
ALL WE NEED is demo watching :)
