Ports?

I was wondering if these have already been ported (and when I say ported, I mean have something like these been ported.)

Simplify Media
Orb
OpenOffice
Microsoft Reader (Well, something to read LIT)
7-Zip
WinDirStat
WinAmp (RythmBox perhaps)
uTorrent
Pidgin

Most of these are Windows Programs, but maybe something along the lines of this has been ported. If not, I was wondering if its possible, somebody's working on it, etc.

Or simply, if theres a website that shows all Pandora ports somewhere. Thnx in advance. What about playing DivX, Flash and Windows Media online? And also, I don't know if this is confined to the Realtek Audio Driver, but a Voluem Mixer allowing you to mute a certain program would be awesome. As well as a music player that runs in the background.

Asking "has this closed source program X with no linux binary and no available sourcecode hence cannot and will never be ported been ported yet?" is a stupid question. please read the pandora FAQ and other information sites linked to from the Pandora site and search the forums.

wait, i just read that whole list. "Microsoft Reader"!?

Hello Raz.
None of those programs have been ported yet and most of them never will be. You know, there is a certain something that is needed to port a program. You should better not request ports until you found out what.

Hence the "Most of these are windows" and "something along the lines".

Well. let's see they need to be basically linux and open-source. Maybe that or something I missed

Here you have a table of equivalents / replacements / analogs of Windows software in Linux:

And a list of free (as in freedom) software for windows, but it also says if it's available for linux. [in spanish]

Simplify Media what?
Orb what wat you talking that remote video thing no?
OpenOffice might be possible ... Abiword pretty much a given
Microsoft Reader what this is Linux and Arm you know?
7-Zip yes-- not the gui version although i think some of the Linux file compression guis support 7z
JKDefrag not needed Linux has low fragmentationby design
UltraISO cdrecord anyone?
WinDirStat what does it do that df and du don't?
CCleaner ... rm -r ~./.*
WinAmp Xmms looks just like Winamp functionally simmilar perhaps better in some cases
ATF Cleaner ?
uTorrent transmission
Trillian pidgin trillian is not free or open source
NTREGOPT have no idea what that is
Auslogics BoostSpeed windows only yet again not every thing runs windows crap bloat ware and needs "boot optimisation" if you are refering to a boot length measurer then there one called boot chart

Also check here

CODE
http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/repo

the pandora is running that version of Linux by default and most of the stuff in thier package repo should work with minimal effort on the developers part

I know this thread is doomed, but I thought I'd jump in here with a tangent of information to share.

First of all, KDirStat does what WinDirStat does, and is open source, but it's KDE only as far as I can tell. It looks like "boabab" is the same tool for GNOME users, but I've never tried it.

Secondly, it may look as if *DirStat is just df/du with pretty colours, but it is *the* tool for determining why your hard drive is full, and to quickly recover an easy 20GB lost to some bizarre file nested in a deep directory you'd never find with a manual search. It seemed the dumbest utility in the world until I actually used it. Now I run it about once every couple months or so when my hard drive gets full.

A friend of mine made something similar to *dirstat but with zero-features:
CODE

it is in python/pygame so it would probably work on the pandora.

Microsoft Reader will not be ported. Ever. Moreover, there is no OSS ebook reader that parses the LIT format. However, simple freeware programs, like Amber LIT Converter or CLIT, make it very trivial to transparently translate LIT into various formats OSS ebook reader can understand.

FBReader is one such OSS reader and my favourite ebook reader to boot. Although it hasn´t been ported to the Pandora architecture yet, it does have an Ängström version and making it run on the Pandora might be as simple as a trivial recompile.

Refer to the following link for all "can the Pandora run XXX?" questions.

Calibre seems to support LIT, among other formats CODE

Calibre Is a GREAT app written in Python I use it a lot on my mac and my PC biggest issue is it would need a total GUI overhall to work on the small screen of teh pandora, however the whole thing can be used by command line prompts so I guess it would be easy for someone who can program to do a nice front end?

I used µTorrent on Windows, and I use Azureus in linux. It's heavier, but equivalent in its possibilities and proffesionality. It has many many features.

I'll second Calibre as being great software. I don't think it's something I'd use for reading though as it was created mainly for editing and formatting books for the Sony ereader devices (I don't think it has any sort of bookmarking features). I guess if you wanted to you could use it to reformat the book to something readable on the Pandora, but that seems like an extra step. Like Karel Jansens pointed out, FBReader is most likely the way to go here.

I'm not sure what's going to be packaged up for the Pandora and I don't know any of the Windows specific stuff you mention, but here's some generic Linux alternatives...

Simplify Media - mpd and friends.

Orb - um, Apache or a more lightweight HTTP or perhaps FTP server? What exactly does Orb do? The website is long on flash and short on info.

OpenOffice - I'm sure there's other threads here about OO specifically, personally I'd want something a bit more lightweight on the Pandora.

Microsoft Reader (Well, something to read LIT) - I don't think you'll find many people here that like DRM encumbered formats. You may be interested in ConvertLit which will convert .lit files into something more Free.

7-Zip - There's a command line version of 7zip for Linux, and I'm sure there are GUI front ends that can handle it. You may want to consider using something more *nixy like tarballs.

WinDirStat - I know Konqueror (the file manager/browser in KDE) does most of this stuff, although it won't be included on Pandora by default. There may be other apps that are in the repository. TBH this program seems very Windowsy, on Linux I suspect you will find you either don't need this or the functionality you do need is provided elsewhere.

WinAmp (RythmBox perhaps) - I really don't think there's going to be a shortage of media players on Pandora.

uTorrent - See previous item, I'm sure there will be several torrent clients.

Pidgin - This exists on Linux. I'm sure there will be several multi-client IM programs available.

Between the two URLs below, you should be able to gather plenty of information. :)

The first link is to the Pandora File Archive, and the second is to the software repository for Angstrom, which is the Linux distribution being used on the Pandora. The latter should at least give some idea of what's possible - clicking on any program name in there will provide an info page which should show which architectures the application available there is available for. :p

EDIT: What on Earth? The forum bugged out and this post didn't seem to go through, and yet it is here, but on the index page it's not showing that there's a reply after Karel's above.
