check out the lovely new knobs i've just put on my two GP2X's :

side view:

front view:

they've been hand-crafted for me by a very talented artisan friend of mine according to precise specs, and they're made of jewellry grade silver, and yes .. those are my initials on one of them .. ;) they fit very well .. and give a bit of 'heft' to the whole joystick assembly which, after all, should be the most pimp thing, since you have it in your grip most of the time. these knobs have the 'cup' design too, and boy they feel good .. they're so tight they go "buh-duh-duh-duh" nipple-vibrate when you flick them with your thumb ..

if anyone is interested in getting one of these knobs too (plain silver cost me 35euro, with initials 50euro) i can set it up, just PM me or /msg me in #gp2xdev .. but don't come looking if you ain't pimp, yo!! B)

I'm soooo tempted to ban your ass for slinging MTV-inspired 'ghetto' talk ;)

... but instead I just think I'll slag on your cap;

Your talented artisan friend either got bad specs or isn't all that talented ... it's sitting up WAY too high. ;)

heh heh .. the height is not a problem, i assure you. these knobs are smooth .. my game is tight.

and you can't take me down for the pimp. these sticks are to spec, which means: they are exactly the way i want 'em!

I could make mine from silver too if anyone wanted but it would be a lot more expensive than $10.00. The difference is that it would sit closer so the dead zone is not increased so much like this one. The concave is too deep there on the silver one too. The idea is ok but the design of the stick cap needs some work to be more useable. I have even thought of doing in aluminum for the budget minded but decided against it because the color doesn't match. I figured Nylatron-GS is more practical , matches, and is "exotic" enough.

DaveC, this cap is -to spec- which means, i spec'ed exactly how i wanted it - height, width, stick length, everthing.

you can't convince me my new knobs aren't superlative to the plastic offerings for the GP2X .. with the new heft and weight, the whole feel of game-playing on the GP2X has changed .. for the better.

sure, you put in a lot of time on your cap, and we've all learned a lot from what you've had to say about it. but you're not such an expert on caps that you can tell me, from one picture, that these knobs aren't rockin' .. sorry, but until you've played with one personally, i can't accept your point of view..

(and yes, i've tried your cap. the problem is: plastic blows.)

As I understand it, molybdenum is a metal, so 'plastic' is an unfair description.

Show us some pics of your shiny cap in about a month or 2 when the greasy sweat from your thumb 'de-blings' it.

well, i already had a skull-cap made from the same material for my gp2x, and have used it for a few months, and its still nice and shiny, same as ever .. only now its on my keychain, since the new knobs just plain kick ass ..

anyway, i just wanted to share, no need to get all .. religious .. about the caps issue. i thought you guys might be interested in a little creative bling being applied to the worst problem of the GP2X, and fixing it for good .. but since there is 'only one perfect cap solution', please excuse me for having an opportunity to do something about it in my case, and then doing it ..

and the offer still stands; if anyone wants to try the silver cap on their gp2x, i can arrange it.

Torpor, dude, for what it's worth, i think your knobs are cool, and if i had a GP2X, i'd definitely consider one.

In fact I *can* tell you from one picture that it is less than ideal control wise. Your cap looks cool but it is too high. Increased height increases the the throw distance, therefore the dead zone. That is not an opinion, not a belief, not a "point of view" it is geometry and mathematics , a FACT plain and simple. If you lower it about 1 cm it would control much better.

Unless of course you didn't like the increased resistance when moving the stick. You know, maths and all that. Get your head out of your ass.

yes, fine, even if it were an issue (for me, its honestly not) its a small and easy matter to shorten the stick to taste ..

but you're *eye-balling* this 'fact' that this stick is too high, not actually measuring it from direct use .. and i don't trust your eye-balling, coz its based on my crap picture .. and coz you've clearly got a vested interest in caps, DaveC. way to cut a brother down, man.

anyway .. i gave it 3 hours of testing with gradius on the trainride home today, and not a problem at all .. in fact, it was positively joyous to have a decent cap, for a change .. but .. wasn't there some 'test app' that measures the deadzone floating around? i'd be happy to run that for you to prove its not an issue ..

Not trying to "cut you down". I did say it looks cool, which it does. It does increase the throw distance though. I can see from the pic that it is about 7 mm above the case. If that doesn't bother you than fine, have fun. You may want to just try a lower version of your same cap to see how you like it as well.

Well with the increased disc size the resistance IS decreased over the stock cap already in his design which is good, so get your head out of *your* ass. I doubt we are so weak that we still have a hard time moving the stick after that.

Torpor,

You got "cut down" and "underminded" because people are so fuckin' crazy about using words that aren't complete. I'm a white, pasty, normal fellow, who at work talks in "ebonics" every once in a while "jus' cuz, fo' sho". It's all fun and games. As a tip, think about what sort of idiot is going to bash you next time, for forgetting the "w" in "Show" or the "r" in "For".

By the way, your cap rocks. I saw the skull one too, and that was pretty cool, though i wouldn't use it.

To DaveC:
- You really should back the fuck off and step down every once in a while. We understand that people like you NEED and CRAVE attention, but please, don't make it so obvious. Was also considering buying one of your "caps" - looks like youv'e lost a customer thanks to your lax people skills.

Edit: Forgot the "ugh" in Though.
