It is quicker than upgrading to GPH firmwareAlex. said:That seems very fast and painless
I can't wait for the first public release, this can only turn out great!
Can't you reverse to 2.0.0 in the normal way?sam fisher said:I have the beta, it worked for two days, and now my GP2x wont boot past the splash

You could have linked to the news note on the site page
Sam, I did not realise Orkie had included you in the test release of DR1, pop onto IRC (#Open2x on FreeNode) and we will see what is wrong.sam fisher said:I have the beta, it worked for two days, and now my GP2x wont boot past the splash
People, that video is slightly speeded up, or frames are dropped (well it is def. a little quicker then what we have at the moment). Boot time is better then the GPH firmware mind you, we just need to do more work on the upgrade process (I want to make it a lot more slick) and look into possible true dual booting with the GPH firmware.
Have a read of the news note for more info on the sort of things that are in this developer release (and no, only testers who are happy to work with us and ideally have serial/jTAG will get these pre-release builds so don't start asking, trust me, if your just a gamer you don't want it just 'yet' anyway). Don’t worry, we want wider releases out as soon as we think it is stable enough.
I was thinking exactly the same thing!ste_167 said:QUOTE
Gmenu2x? Dave, your prayers are answered.
GP2XMB development seems to have come to a halt and we just don't have time in the project team (it's small enough and stretched enough as it is) to take on the maintenance and development of a menu. It also needed a number of features to be added to be really of use.norm said:awesome - what happened to using gp2xmb?
Will all of the powerful features still be there for those of us that *want* all of the functionality? Or will it be "dumbed down" for all of us whether we like it or not? Or will there be a possible two versions, the full one and the simpled up one that could be installed?DJWillis said:The decision was then taken to re-look at GMenu2X as it is actively developed and well liked, we would like to skin it and add a few specific features and maybe simplify the Open2x default view of it but Ryo seems very willing to work with us on that. My only personal issue with GMenu2X was that it is such a powerful menu that it can sometimes detract from the 'pick up and and use' mantra we have been working towards. That can all be dealt with mind you .

Dave, the plan is not to remove features but maybe make the 'jump in' threshold a little lower. You can install another menu or a 'full' version or whatever else you may want to do.

Ok but will there ba a version that looks and works just like the one we use now on the GP2X? Can the current one actually be used as-is or does it need to be "ported" to the new OS? I know it is not just me that likes the current layout and functionality of Gmenu2X.

I think GMenu2X is simple enough for every user. The standard features are working from scratch, Links can be insered automaticly by searching SD and the most detailed Setting Features of the Menu are not neccessary for normal use. Everyone who had worked on a PC should have no problem with Gmenu2X. It's nearly self-explaining user guided I would say.DaveC said:Will all of the powerful features still be there for those of us that *want* all of the functionality? Please people, do not turn this into a thread about menu choices for pity's sake.fusion_power said:I think GMenu2X is simple enough for every user.
