Hi,

I've been reading stuff recently, about some open alternatives to well-known standards, namely NVidia proprietary drivers, and Flash...

I have an NVidia 8800M GTX, and when Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" comes out, I'd like to give the "nouveau" driver a go :)

Does anyone here have some experience with it ? How is it performing ?

"Nouveau" is a 2D only driver (like the old "nv" one). How is 3D acceleration when using Gallium3D (Mesa3D ?), compared to NVidia official, closed-source, driver ?

On a side note, I'd also like to give Gnash a go :)

If I understand correctly, Gnash supports hardware acceleration through vaapi, which is compatible with NVidia's VDPAU...

It seems my card lacks VDPAU, am I out of luck with my 8800M GTX ?

Bye, and thanks for your help !

nouveau: 2D works fine with my FX5200 (old crap) and IIRC even the never 9500 GT worked just fine, as long as you dont expect xinerama or any other fancy features. Havent tested hardware 3D. Just my 2c.
