It says there is a new MP3 player, beta 2 version. Has anyone tried it out? What are the new features? Thanks

i checked it out on geepee, because my GP32 in not here yet... it was pretty cool LOOKING (the GP icon spinning around in the upper right corner), but i dont know of any new features...

So it basically seemed to be the same thing? <_< I wish they would come out with a really good MP3 player, one with all the features!!

It has some new features (compared to beta 1)/

* There is now a help screen (press select while no song is playing)
* You can switch between filenames and mp3 tags
* I *think* better support for other samplerates
* Hold mode changed (hold text now displayed in screen)
* Delete function, don't know if it deletes from list or from disk.

And maybe some small other changes. I am at work and only have the new version with me not the old.

beta 1 still didnt accept a lower bitrate than 128kb, ill do some more tests just now and see how beta 2 is with this, cause as far as im concerned its the only really problem with the current player

good news, just tried bitrates of 48, 64 and 96 and there all FINE now :D :D

i also went down to 16, but that doesnt work, not that anyone would really wanna use so low :p lol

Great stuff, the new beta is fantastic, you can even make up a playlist now and it saves it B)

heh 16bit i don't think thats even radio quality is it? :D does it support high bit rates as i got some up at 196 and stuff :)

well i can say that beta 2 is better than beta 1 because when i tried beta 1 it didn't show any songs being there yet the original player did.

i did only have 1 song on there tho.
white stripes - seven nation army ... pop pickers! :)

other changes ... where has the equalizer display gone? although the original was so slow to be pointless ... seems it has been replaced by a pointless spinning icon. :(

Just tried both bitrates 192 and 320 Shrike, both play fine so i guess 196 will be too

One thing tho, when you play a 320 file, the little spining logo slows waaayyyy down. Still plays fine tho :p

I wish there was a fast forward

There always was a help menu!

I found that the old one crashed after certain songs if the biterate was higher than 128, it doesn't do that anymore so its better as far as I'm concerned.

There is a randomizer function but it doesn't randomize properly, it seems to be the same order most of the time but not all of the time...

lol, something i just noticed... when you select to delete a file and it asks you to confirm, they spell YES, YSE :D

Koreans for ye :p

all i really want is a really really effective randomiser
I just fiddle around with the order of the list by pressing select and then the d-pad (up and down) and the L and R buttons, and only activate randomizing.
By the way, in the first beta everything was working ok for me until I put a song (the ocean-LZ) that screwed
it up for good, even after deleting it the player would crash before generating the list. The new one works fine!!! B)

What is variable bitrate MP3 anyways, and I think that the bitrate changes (right????) so what is the point of it if I am right in what it is?

The main point is to save space and still get good quality. For instance, silence in a song is really nothing but a constant bitrate still encodes at whatever the bitrate is set for (say 192Kbps).

The same noise in a VBR is encoded at the lowest rate (per settings), say 64Kbps. So u save space during the moments in a song where little to nothing is happening.

Umm... this was either really ironic or really modest. This thing is still far from being perfect.

There's still a crack at the beginning of every track, the user interface is unbelievably crappy (you could do the same stuff with 3 buttons, they use all of them, in the most un-intuitive and tedious way!), there's no pre-sorting (any new list is randomized by default, so putting an album on it is a PITA, you have to sort it manually first)...

If someone would look at the GP32 as an MP3 player with some extras, he'd be disappointed by the player SW and probably not buy it.
