I just found some little programs while searching for a way to establish an Internet-connection from console:

Cnetworkmanager: http://vidner.net/martin/software/cnetworkmanager/

I just tested the programm for a very short while, but managed to get a connection with it. I downloaded the tar, untar-ed it, logged out of xfce (Because nm-applet must not run. You can of course also choose to remove the applet),switched to tty, changed to the cnetworkmanager-dir and tried to connect to my local wlan. All i had to do was to give the SSID and passphrase via parameter. I recommend to run "screen" before. Then you can leave cnetworkmanager running, press CTRL+A+D to detach the screen-session. If you want to end cnetworkmanager, then just type "screen -r" to restore the screen-session and press CTRL+C. I'm not sure how easy it is to connect to a new hidden wlan. Maybe this was just especially easy because i configured the connection in the nm-applet before.

Then while browsing the homepage of cnetworkmanager, i came across:

nmcli: http://github.com/mvidner/nmcli"

I haven't tried running that so far, so i can not tell you anything about it. But maybe it's handy at some point.

For diagnostic purpose "nm-tool" might be helpful too. From what i have found out by searching around, it's supposed to be in the network-manager-package. But it isn't installed on the Pandora. Later i found this email . So maybe it is the -dev-package of networkmanager. I didn't investigate so far, but maybe someone is interested. Be careful though, because breaking your connection might bring you into restoration-problems. ;)
