Hey everyone, I'm planning on buying a new laptop for gaming/college use and I wanted to get your advice! I'm really aiming below $600, with a decent battery life and gaming performance being my main concerns. Here are the two that I found:

http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-V3-572G-587W-15-6-Inch-Platinum/dp/B00K81O3PY/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top#productDetails

http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-V5-552G-X852-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B00FNPD1WG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

And here is a comparison of their graphics cards:

Now, the graphics card on the first acer is undoubtedly better than the 8750 on the second one. However, the first acer has an Intel i5 CPU that clocks at a base of 1.7-2.7ghz, with a 3mb cache. The second acer has the quad core AMD with 2.5ghz and a 4mb cache. I was wondering, for the difference in CPU cache size create any noticeable difference in use? Which would you recommend? Or would you recommend something else entirely? As always, thanks guys!

I second Wally's first statement. Acer hardware typically is crapola.

HP and ASUS are decent brands to look into. Though I tend to prefer Macs myself, so if your budget allows for some wiggle room, you can opt for a last generation 11" MacBook Air for around $800 or so if you know where to look.

I'm happy with my Lenovo y series 500. Though that was $1k but I think they have some good products to offer for the $

Stop recommending Macs to someone who isn't already using them, they're a different kind of thing.

I don't like Acer either, or many others of those besides Asus.  I really like Sager notebooks, they're the least name brand looking name brand I've ever seen, they don't insist their logo or name be anywhere on the laptop.  Plus xoticpc.com is happy to sell them without an operating system, let alone McAfee trials and AOL discs like some other brands stuff the box full of.

Sager stuff does look...interesting.  The people I know with them love them, and helped win me over.  I just don't have the money to actually go through with it.

Back to the original question, be aware that AMD stuff may run a little hot.

+1 no Acer. I've had two of that brand and wasn't too happy with them.

I recommend Sony Vaio, Thinkpads and Fujitsu - targeting business customers and they are made in Germany ; )

In other news, Acer is also crap.
