Here's a quickie:

My 1GB Sandisk Ultra II Plus (the kind that folds in half with a usb connector) doesn't like to have more than 36 files in one directory. I've got ideas of my own, but before I mess around with a gig of info- what would be the best way to fix this?

Well, strictly speaking, your card doesn't care how many files you have in any directory, in fact it doesn't even know what a file is - it just stores data. Therefore, you either have a card with faulty memory, some really strange file system, or the file system is corrupt. Try taking all your files off the card and doing a complete reformat.

Some file systems do not like more than a specific number of files in each directory. For example, PS2 discs can not have more than 32 files in each directory.

Make sure your card is formatted as FAT32.
