N-Gage: cracked!

Just for the record, at least Sonic-N and Puyo Pop work great on the Nokia 3650. :)

well if they work on other less powerfull phones they should work on the gp32 right? i dont know much about porting and coding and stuff like that so could someonetell me if its possible to get that on the gp32?

Nope. The games in question are on the J2ME platform, based on Java. Many phones and phone/PDA crosses run this platform so that so-called 'Java phone games' will work on them all without porting.

However a small amount of N-Gage games use OpenGL or direct C code for the handheld - in this case the crack is still notable, as it allows roms to be made and run on PC-based emulators. Either way it's not good news for Nokia.

the games are compiled for the phone, written in c/c++
and why bother about an emulator for 6 n-gage games...

tr1 on gp32 would KICK ASS ;) has this one been "seen" running on any "wierd" phones ??? now we must have java platform... is there an open source one that would work???

has anybody made an n gage emu yet or is there one in development?
Well, as far as I know, most (if not all?) N-Gage games are just based on the Series 60 platform under SymbianOS. There should be emulators for that already, for developmental use.. probably the only thing keeping them from working before was the copy protection which seems to have been compromised now.

I'm sure you'll be seeing something about n-gage emulation very soon now that the news has broken and these games are in the wild. Not sure about on GP32 though.

Bringoutthegimp - Always wanted to ask this when I see your posts... Is that you in your Avatar??????

lol, nokia have f**k up so bad with the n-gage. Firs of all 2 days after its relese I heard that the games copy protection had been cracked and the games could also run on run on any size of card and where being distributed on the E-donkey and IRC. I now found out i wont even have to buy nokias terribly designed phone to play the games. Nockia n-gage is screwed.

i think it would be fantastic to have a j2me emulator especially :( though i doubt it will happen but surely the gp32 is powerful enough ???

Rico: The N-Gage games are, as already said, not written in Java. Every newer phone can handle J2ME games, that's not the thing about the N-Gage. The thing is the GameBoy-like style to better handle games, the fast CPU and the big Cartridges (normal mem-cards?).

But i really wasn't aware that every Ser.60 phone can deal with the games :) that's funny :)
But i think the complex games like TR would be slow on "normal" phones.

A J2ME emu should be easy stuff (speedwise). I develop Mobile Games and there are some slooooow phones like the SE T610. The GP32 should perform much better. And: J2ME can only handle fixed point arithm. So no prob with floating points either :)
The problem is the many screen sizes of the phones, but a Ser.60 J2ME emu should be enough since the games on this one are the nicest looking ones. Like Black Hole, The Paper Menace, GemJam and so... ;)

N-GAGE games aren't J2ME, they're compiled C++ programs. Just for the record :)

(n-gage CAN play j2me games though, but j2me is a born-dead platform anyway)

Only Series 60, dude! Like Nokia 3650, 7650, Siemens SX1 and some newer I don't know yet.
